Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has admitted he was worried there might be ‘bodies hidden beneath the floorboards’ while renovating his home, and he has since brought in experts to look into it.

Antony Cotton confessed that he feared there might be ‘bodies under the floorboards’ while his home was being refurbished. The 50-year-old actor, best known for playing Sean Tully on Coronation Street for over two decades, shared the unsettling story during an episode of Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted.
In the dramatic scenes, he welcomed investigators into his converted church apartment in Scarborough, where they began searching for spirits in the 18th-century building, located just 200 metres from the coast.
Antony explained: “When we first walked inside, it was awful. It was dirty, it smelled terrible, and it was freezing. The wind would howl through the place. During the renovation, I was told there could be bodies beneath the floorboards — the remains of unfortunate souls who died at sea.”

The former Queer As Folk actor admitted he doesn’t usually believe in anything supernatural, but revealed that his partner Peter absolutely despised the place and often refused to step inside.
He explained: “Do I believe in the paranormal? No, I don’t. But I’m really interested in the house’s history, and if the team can capture a presence, an atmosphere, an energy — whatever it may be — I’m all for it! My partner Peter couldn’t stand the place and would sometimes stay in the car without even getting out!”
Filled with old tales and forgotten spirits, the property prompted Antony to call in the experts from the Discovery+ series. With psychic medium Ian Lawman and paranormal investigators Katrina Weidman and Barri Ghai on hand, Antony told them: “I’m open to being shown that all of this is real.”

As they drove along the seafront toward Cotton’s property, medium Ian described a choking sensation and a wave of deep sadness, suggesting a possible connection between the sea and the spirits they were investigating.
While Barri and Katrina reviewed case notes, Ian relied on his psychic abilities to guide his insights.
Wandering through the property with a candle, Ian admitted: “This is the first time in a long while that I’ve felt genuinely confused!
“But the floor… when I look down, my feet disappear! That usually signals that something unusual occurred on the original ground-level floor.”
He soon became convinced there were multiple spirits present: a young person from a wartime period, an adult fisherman, and an American female performer dressed in 1920s-style attire, symbolizing wealth and glamour. Despite feeling unsettled, Ian insisted that all three entities were eager to communicate.
Katrina then spoke to a local historian, who detailed fatalities linked to the property, shedding light on Antony’s eerie discovery.
The historian explained: “Reports indicate that two bodies were discovered in separate sarcophagi, accompanied by 12th-century artefacts.”
It became clear that a spirit named Josephine, along with another called Peter, haunted the home. But the investigation took an even more shocking turn when a producer interrupted with a chilling new revelation.
