A Coronation Street star has received an outpouring of support following a heartbreaking family announcement.
A Coronation Street star and his Good Morning Britain presenter wife have been met with an outpouring of support from followers after sharing heartbreaking family news on social media.
Katy Rickitt, a correspondent who joined the ITV breakfast programme in 2012, has reported on countless stories throughout her years as a journalist.
Outside of her broadcasting career, Katy is married to actor Adam Rickitt, best known for playing Nick Tilsley on Coronation Street from 1997 to 2004.
The couple first crossed paths in 2011 when Katy interviewed Adam for GMB. Their connection quickly grew, leading to a magical winter wedding in December 2014, three years after that first meeting.
In addition to their successful individual careers, Katy and Adam also run Dexter and Jones, a specialty bottle shop located in Knutsford, Cheshire, as reported by Wales Online.
This week, however, Katy took to Instagram to share heartbreaking news about their beloved dog, Tallulah. Posting a touching photo of herself cuddling the much-loved pup, Katy wrote: “First of all, I almost forgot how wonderful you all are, so thank you so much.”
She went on to say, “I shared this on my story last night because I was having a very emotional moment with Tallulah, and I’ve been overwhelmed with all your lovely messages. Thank you, guys.”
“So I just wanted to explain what’s happening, as I’ll likely post more of these — and maybe it might help someone else. Over the past few months, Tallulah has begun having seizures, and the first ones were absolutely awful.
“If we managed to catch them early, we could hold her and help ease things, but if not, the fits were violent and truly heartbreaking to watch. We took her to the vet and had to confront the terrifying possibility that she might have a brain tumour.”
Katy went on: “Before accepting that, we decided to try an ultrasound and run some blood tests, hoping against hope that the cause was something else. It turns out Tallulah has toxoplasma — a parasite dogs can contract from eating cat poo — which is why I wanted to share this with all of you.”
“Don’t let them eat it — older dogs can really suffer from it. The parasite is also found in raw meat. She’s nearly finished an intensive course of antibiotics now and is permanently on anti-seizure medication… which we’re having to balance carefully, because a higher dose leaves her unable to stand.”
She added: “Her seizures had stopped, but this week they’ve started again, though they’re much less severe. She foams at the mouth and seems disoriented, but she doesn’t go into a full fit. Because we don’t want to put her through an MRI, we simply don’t know whether the toxo has caused brain damage… or whether she might even have a tumour as well.”
“So the late-night photos are because she’s my soul dog, and I just can’t stop looking at her. To me, she is the most perfect little soul, and I want to soak up every moment with her… just in case. It’s not a short-term thing (at least I really hope it’s not), but I’ll keep you updated. In the meantime, cuddle your babies… just in case. Because being a dog mum is just like being any mum… except we know we’re going to lose them first.”
Supporters of Katy and Adam quickly offered comfort in the comments, sharing heartfelt messages. One follower wrote, “Sending love to you all.” Another added, “Sending hugs to you both. Their unconditional love is everything.” A third supporter said, “Awww bless you all, sending you huge hugs and kisses. Tallulah knows she’s in safe hands with you and Adam and knows you’re there to love and support her.”
