Coronation Street’s Charlotte Jordan is most recognised for her role as Daisy Midgeley in the ITV soap.
A Coronation Street star has reportedly stepped away from her newly-secured soap role, leaving producers rushing to find someone else to take over. This follows news that another actress from the cobbles recently announced her engagement.
Producers of BBC Radio 4’s The Archers have allegedly had to quickly recast a role that had originally been given to Charlotte Jordan. The actress, best known for playing Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street, had been working on the radio drama since June. However, she landed a new opportunity and was therefore forced to withdraw.
Charlotte had been cast as newcomer Amber, but the role has since been reassigned to another actress after her departure.
Instead, she has taken on new work and will appear in the forthcoming BBC period drama The Hairdresser Mysteries. She is set to star alongside well-known names such as Sally Phillips and Charlotte Hope, with the former Corrie favourite taking on one of the project’s three leading roles.
The series centres on Lily Petal, played by Sally, who moves to a quiet village only to uncover a number of hidden secrets among the residents, according to The Mirror.
Following Charlotte’s exit, Olivia Bernstone has now taken over the role of Amber in The Archers. A spokesperson for the show told Metro: “After delivering a fantastic portrayal of Amber, Charlotte Jordan is taking time to focus on other projects, and we are pleased to welcome Olivia Bernstone to the cast, who will portray Amber from now on.”
The Daily Star has reached out to The Archers for further comment.
Charlotte stepped away from her Coronation Street role as Daisy Midgeley in May. Daisy, Jenny Connor’s stepdaughter, made her Weatherfield debut in 2020 and has been at the heart of several major storylines since then.
Following the broadcast of her final episode, Charlotte posted an emotional video message to thank her fans and supporters. She said: “Hi – I just wanted to come on and say thank you for all the love you’ve given Daisy over the past four and a half years. It’s been incredible. I’ve been honoured to be a small part of Corrie’s history, and I’m going to miss this place so, so much. Goodbye for now.”
She went on to admit that she had been “crying on and off for nearly four hours” before filming her final scene. Charlotte added that she found it difficult to summon tears during her last moment with co-star Rob Mallard because she had already cried so much beforehand.
Charlotte went on to say: “The Corrie team made my final day so special. The canteen surprised me with my favourite lunch — which set me off crying. The art department created a gorgeous card for me — which also made me cry.
“I’d glance over at Channique [Sterling-Brown], Julia [Goulding] or Sal [Sally Ann Matthews] during our last lunch break and see them in tears — which, of course, made me cry too. By the end of the day, I think I was medically dehydrated.”
Charlotte first announced in January that she would be leaving the soap, with her exit airing in May. She had told the show’s bosses the year before that she wouldn’t be renewing her contract, giving them plenty of time to plan an exciting departure storyline for her character.
