EastEnders is preparing to launch a new romantic storyline in Albert Square, much to the frustration of its viewers.
In Monday’s episode (November 17) of the BBC soap, Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) was left shocked after learning that her vile stepson, Joel Marshall (Max Murray), plans to plead not guilty to assaulting her.
The traumatic attack has made Vicki wary of men, but she is now unafraid to speak out against bad male behaviour. Just last week, she unleashed a verbal tirade at a man in Harry’s Barn before returning home and causing chaos in the kitchen.
In the latest episode, Vicki and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) met with a liaison officer to hear about Joel’s planned plea at his hearing. Joel continues to deny any wrongdoing, claiming the assault was an act of self-defence.
Initially planning to stay home, a distressed Vicki was convinced to attend The Vic for the weekly quiz night, where she began to make some progress with Joel’s father, Ross (Alex Walkinshaw), according to OK! magazine.
The pair shared a drink, and there were clear sparks of chemistry. However, Vicki soon noticed troubling behaviour from Chelsea’s date, Damon.
He was ordering her strong drinks, seemingly attempting to get her drunk and take advantage of her. Vicki confronted him and was later horrified to overhear him speaking to his wife on the phone.
Chelsea told Vicki to step back, explaining that while she already knew of Damon’s marital status, it didn’t excuse his behaviour as yet another man who assumed he could exploit women with no repercussions.
Later, Vicki and Damon ran into each other at the launderette, where he continued to act aggressively and approached her threateningly.
In self-defence, Vicki pushed him, causing him to fall and hit his head.
Despite the incident, many EastEnders viewers were drawn to the chemistry between Vicki and Zack. While Vicki is Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) adoptive sister, Zack is Sharon’s biological half-brother.
In upcoming episodes, Zack and Vicki are set to grow closer as she confides in him about the lasting impact of Joel’s assault.
The pair will even share a kiss, leaving some fans disappointed due to their connection through Sharon—though Vicki and Zack are not related by blood.
Turning to X, one viewer wrote: “Vicki and Zack… it’s just one terrible storyline after another #EastEnders.”
Another added: “They’re definitely setting up Zack and Vicki as a permanent couple… makes my stomach churn #EastEnders.”
