“Cilla Battersby hasn’t appeared on Coronation Street for years, but next week the soap will reveal a major update on the beloved character.”

Coronation Street has delivered a major update on Cilla Battersby, nearly 20 years after her original exit.
Cilla (Wendi Peters) first appeared in 2003, arriving on the cobbles as the mother of Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Chesney (Sam Aston), quickly becoming a fan favourite.
The outspoken factory worker was at the centre of several major storylines during her time on the soap. From a cancer diagnosis to her romance with Les Battersby (Bruce Jones), her years in Weatherfield were packed with drama.
In 2007, fans were devastated when Cilla bid farewell to the cobbles, leaving her children behind to pursue the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas.

A year later, Wendi Peters made a cameo as Cilla in the spin-off Coronation Street: Out Of Africa, and in 2014, the character returned for a short stint—but she hasn’t been seen in Weatherfield since.
Now, Coronation Street spoilers for next week reveal a major update on Cilla, and it isn’t good news.
As viewers know, Fiz has been caring for a wheelchair-bound Tyrone (Alan Halsall) following his accident last month. Feeling overwhelmed, Fiz has been struggling in recent episodes.

In Monday’s episode (November 24), Fiz tells Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that Cilla needs to have an operation and there’s no one to care for her. Tyrone insists that she must go and reassures Fiz that he can manage for a few days.
Later in the week, Chesney is surprised to see Fiz at a hotel reception, questioning why she isn’t at Cilla’s side. But what has happened to Cilla?

After leaving Coronation Street in 2007, Cilla actress Wendi Peters became a finalist on Celebrity MasterChef in 2009, and went on to tour the UK in theatre shows including Grumpy Old Women Live 2, White Christmas, Crime Stories, and Call Me Vicky.
She has also appeared in TV series such as Midsomer Murders and Flockstars. In 2022, she took on a role in rival soap BBC’s Doctors as Dr. Nina Bulsara, leaving the show in 2024.
Back in 2020, Wendi hinted that Cilla might make a return to Coronation Street. Speaking at the Guide Dogs’ virtual tea party, she said: “If a lovely storyline came up and I popped back in for a little while, it’d be nice. But I’m so busy work-wise. It would be quite fun now they’ve got quadruplets, to play the mother from hell looking after them.”
