While Carl Webster keeps causing heartbreak on Coronation Street, actor Jonathan Howard’s real-life romantic life is worlds away from the turmoil on the cobbles.

Coronation Street’s Carl Webster has certainly stirred things up on the cobbles, but actor Jonathan Howard’s real life is far calmer than his character’s.
Jonathan joined the soap earlier this year as Carl, the estranged brother of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie (Sue Devaney). It didn’t take long for him to spark chaos.
Alongside carrying out questionable MOTs at his brother’s garage, Carl has also been scheming to take control of Debbie’s businesses amid her heartbreaking dementia struggle. On top of that, the Weatherfield charmer has romanced several residents since arriving, including James Bailey (Jason Callender) and even Kevin’s wife, Abi (Sally Carman).
The truth about Carl and Abi eventually came to light, and the pair are now together and living under the same roof. But off screen, Jonathan’s love life is far less dramatic.
Jonathan and his wife’s pandemic wedding

Soap actor Jonathan is blissfully married to fellow performer Elodie Yung. Elodie has enjoyed a successful career herself, with roles in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Daredevil. More recently, she starred as Thony De La Rosa in The Cleaning Lady.
Jonathan and Elodie first met after he moved to the United States following drama school. Their relationship continued to flourish, and they welcomed their daughter, Minavann, in 2018. In 2020, the couple tied the knot in a pandemic-era wedding.
Speaking to TheDay.com, Elodie said: “It was during COVID, during lockdown. The sweet part was that we had a couple of friends who were here. Our parents are in Europe — my mum in Paris and his mum in the U.K.
“So Jonny had his mum on his phone, and I had mine on my phone, both dressed up and making an effort. That’s how we did it — and it was fun.”
Jonathan opens up about ‘heartbreak’

Because Jonathan is based in the UK for Coronation Street while his family remains in America, he has previously spoken about the emotional challenges of being apart from his wife and daughter.
“The toughest part of this job is the heartbreak of not being with my daughter every day,” he admitted on Loose Women earlier this year. He went on to explain that his daughter has a long summer holiday and was able to stay at his mum’s house — just an hour from the Corrie set.
Jonathan added: “At weekends I go back home and sleep in my childhood bedroom, which feels odd at 40! Thankfully, my mum’s redecorated!”
Elodie surprises Jonathan on set

In June, Elodie delighted fans when she revealed on Instagram that she had arrived in Manchester and paid a surprise visit to Jonathan on the Coronation Street set.
She captioned one Instagram Story with, “Welcome to… Manchester!!” and later shared a sweet photo of herself with Jonathan, writing: “Visited @mrjonathanhoward on set @coronationstreet.” Jonathan then reposted the picture on his own page.
