EastEnders is preparing to air a special flashforward episode, giving viewers an early look at the drama set to unfold in 2026.
This one-off installment, airing on New Year’s Day on BBC1, will follow long-time character Max Branning a year into the future, as he finds himself in a situation with major consequences for both him and his family.
The 30-minute episode, set in 2027, puts Max — played by Jake Wood — at the center of a host of dramatic events. With several storylines happening simultaneously, it’s clear that 2026 will reveal many hidden secrets.
The show’s producers have confirmed that these glimpses into 2027 will provide intriguing clues about what’s in store for Max and those around him throughout the year.
EastEnders’ executive producer Ben Wadey said: “For the first time in the show’s history, we’re giving viewers a full flashforward episode airing on New Year’s Day 2027.”
He added: “2026 is shaping up to be packed with drama in Walford, especially for the Brannings. The episode will leave plenty of questions about how Max and his family ended up in these situations — but things aren’t always as they appear. Stay tuned to see how and why it all unfolds in 2026.”
EastEnders has previously included a flashforward segment in February 2023, highlighting a moment from that year’s Christmas Day storyline.
Max, played by Jake Wood, first arrived in Walford in June 2006 alongside his then-wife Tanya and their daughters Lauren and Abi. He exited the show in 2021 following the end of his affair with Linda Carter, before returning earlier this year.
