This week on Coronation Street, viewers will see Jenny Connor turn against Rita Tanner.
Coronation Street fans are set for emotional scenes this week as Rita Tanner faces a difficult time on the cobbles.
Earlier, Jenny Connor was seen competing for George Shuttleworth’s attention, aiming to outshine her romantic rival, Christina Boyd.
Ahead of a dating night at the Rovers Return Inn, George’s sister Glenda Shuttleworth revealed her plan to rig the evening so Jenny would get the first opportunity with George, rather than Christina.
However, the night takes a turn when Rita calls Jenny to say she’s had a fall. Concerned, Jenny leaves the event early upon hearing the news.
As the storyline develops, Jenny exploits Rita’s accident for her own gain. When George brings soup for the supposedly unwell Rita, Jenny, realizing she’s been caught in a lie, quickly ushers him out after he delivers it.
When Brian Packham reveals that Rita only has a sprained ankle, it remains to be seen how George will respond.
Later, a remorseful Jenny apologizes to Rita for deceiving George about her condition and admits she enjoyed the attention.
The question now is whether Rita can forgive her again or if Jenny has finally gone too far. Meanwhile, with this storyline unfolding, many fans have been curious about the age of Rita actress Barbara Knox. Remarkably, she is 92 years old and has been a fixture on the cobbles since her first appearance in 1964, before securing a permanent role in 1972.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Barbara Knox had signed a new contract to continue on the soap beyond her 92nd birthday. This ensures the Weatherfield favourite will remain on the cobbles as Rita into 2026 and play a key role in the show’s 65th anniversary celebrations later this year.
Speaking in a special ITV documentary celebrating her 90th birthday in 2023, Barbara pledged to stay on the show for as long as the producers wanted her.
“And if they’re listening, I don’t want to retire,” she declared.
