General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) seems to be a new and improved man on the ABC soap. But the big question remains: has Ric truly changed, or is this so-called transformation just another one of his tricks?
Tricky Ricky: Angel on One Shoulder, Devil on the Other?
Ric has always been a complex character—capable of real darkness, yet still possessing a redeemable side. Has the angel on his shoulder finally won out over the devil? Ric’s past is filled with terrible actions against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and many others in Port Charles, yet there has always been a hint of goodness buried within him.
After being held captive for weeks by Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi), and Ava Jerome (Maura West), Ric has emerged seemingly changed. His time in the basement may have pushed out a better version of Ric.
The Many Faces of Ric
Ric has long envied his half-brother Sonny, whom he didn’t meet until adulthood, sparking years of resentment and many of Ric’s worst choices.
He has committed terrible acts—locking a pregnant Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in a panic room to steal her baby remains his most infamous crime. He has lied, cheated, blackmailed, hurt people, framed them, and stolen from them.
Still, Ric has a softer side: he genuinely loved Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and still does. He may not show it well, but he defends those he cares about, and he’s a talented attorney. He loves his daughter, Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos).
Ric’s Rapid Shifts From Good to Bad
Ric may have been offscreen for a while, but now that he’s back, he seems determined to do anything for his daughter. The trouble is, Ric tends to do something good and then immediately sabotage himself with something bad.
Alexis, Kristina, and Ava keeping him tied to a cot with a ball gag in a basement for weeks could have prompted some soul-searching.
Once freed, Ric appeared genuinely reflective. Now he wants to repair his relationship with Sonny. He asked to represent Sonny in his legal battles, and Sonny agreed—starting with asking Ric to help his grandson, Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr).
Rocco in Juvenile Detention
Rocco is currently stuck in a juvenile detention center, and Ric seems determined to get him released. He’s even teaming up with Alexis again and appears to be making an effort to mend fences with her too.
It really does look like Ric is trying to turn his life around.
If he stays on this path, maybe he and Sonny can finally work together instead of constantly clashing. And who knows—Ric might even have a chance at winning Elizabeth back one day.
But this is Ric Lansing after all, which means there’s always the possibility that he has another scheme brewing. The only question is: what might he be planning?
