Former EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley has revealed her impressive weight loss as she gears up for a gritty new drama. Lorraine, 49, is set to appear in Cash In Hand — a comedy-drama set in Essex — marking her first major role since leaving Albert Square last year.
The mum-of-one, who tied the knot with long-term partner Mark Perez in August, shared that she underwent weight-loss surgery after becoming “immune” to injections. Since departing the flagship BBC soap in 2024, where she played Karen Taylor for seven years, Lorraine has lost 6.5 stone.
The actress revealed she spent “an awful lot of money” on a gastric sleeve procedure at a London clinic two years ago. Lorraine said: “It’s hands-down the best thing I’ve ever done — both for me and for my family.”
She revealed that she had previously tried the weight-loss injection Wegovy but eventually felt it stopped working, as she became “immune” to the treatment. Lorraine shared images on social media to document her weight-loss journey.
She also credited a nutritionist friend who helped guide her on what to eat. Lorraine said that daily workouts combined with a balanced diet have made a big difference. She added: “I’m enjoying it and I feel better for it. I’ve eaten a lot of boiled eggs, fish, chicken — no carbs, no crisps, no chocolate.”
In a recent Instagram post, Lorraine looked completely transformed from her days on Albert Square, dressing up in a thick leopard-print coat and golden hoop earrings for her character in the upcoming show. She was joined by co-star Sonny Green, known from River City, as the pair laughed together and pointed at the camera while filming had paused.
Commenting on the post, Lorraine wrote: “What a day! Thanks for having me, loved every minute with you beautiful lot,” accompanied by an OK hand emoji and a heart. “So much talent, great energy, and good vibes; I can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
Co-star Sonny replied: “YOU’RE THE BEST LORRAINE! Keep smashing it; the world isn’t ready for what we’re cooking up.”
Lorraine is now moving on to new projects after making a brief guest appearance in Walford last year, but she has ruled out returning to the Square anytime soon. Speaking to The Sun at the time, she said: “Once you’ve done a soap, you’ve done a soap. At the moment, I wouldn’t go back — I’m happy doing what I’m doing.”
However, she revealed that BBC bosses have always told her she’s welcome to return to EastEnders whenever she wishes — a possibility she hasn’t ruled out completely. “They’ve left the door open, so never say never. Making that special appearance was lovely, and it was great to see everyone and be part of the family again,” she added.
