Emmerdale actor Bradley Johnson has spoken about his co-star Lisa Riley’s “journey through grief.”
An Emmerdale star has opened up about Lisa Riley’s personal struggle following a devastating family loss.
The 49-year-old actress, best known for her role as Mandy Dingle in the popular ITV soap, is currently facing her fears in the Australian jungle alongside eleven other celebrities.
She has already endured having her head trapped in a snake-filled container and was recently forced to leave camp due to severe weather conditions.
Lisa has been adjusting well to life in the jungle and has quickly become one of the most popular contestants this series. She has formed a particularly close bond with fellow camper Jack Osbourne, as they shared their experiences of losing a parent.
The soap favourite notably asked Jack about his father, Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away earlier this year. Both became emotional while discussing the Black Sabbath legend, with Lisa revealing that her own mother had also died, according to the Express.
Lisa’s mother, Cath, passed away from breast cancer that had spread to her pelvis, ovaries, and pancreas in 2012. She was just 57 years old.
Reflecting on what her mother would think of her jungle adventure, Lisa said: “While my mum would have been thrilled at the idea of me doing the jungle, I can also picture her at nine o’clock worrying frantically about me. But she knew I’m a very headstrong person.”
Emmerdale actor Bradley Johnson, who plays Lisa’s on-screen son Vinny Dingle, appeared on ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday (November 25), where he spoke with presenter Lorraine Kelly about the personal challenges Lisa has faced.
Lorraine said: “She’s formed a lot of friendships, especially with Jack Osbourne, and she’s definitely been a big support to him. You can tell she’s really looking out for him.”
Bradley replied: “Absolutely. Everything Lisa has gone through with losing her mum and her grief journey, and for Jack as well — it’s only been four months for him.”
“She’s really been there for him, supporting him through that journey. I think the best remedy — and Lisa always says this — is to talk about it and be open.
“For her to be there for Jack is exactly what’s needed. We saw him with Eddie [Kadi] having a moment, letting his emotions out. She’s definitely someone who can help him.”
Speaking about his co-star, Bradley added: “She’s doing incredible. Lisa plays Mandy Dingle, this larger-than-life character, and it’s wonderful for people to see this side of her — so caring and so lovable.
“She’s the person we all turn to at work, especially me, for advice and a shoulder to lean on. She’s doing a phenomenal job.”
