I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Shona McGarty had to step away from a conversation after opening up about her personal heartbreak.
The former EastEnders actress is currently in the jungle alongside Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley, Martin Kemp, Eddie Kadi, Alex Scott and Angry Ginge as they face Ant and Dec’s gruelling Bushtucker Trials.
Shona has already spoken openly about her anxiety and mental health challenges in an honest camp chat, and has now revealed more about her private life while discussing a past relationship.
When the conversation among the campmates shifted to engagements and proposals, Shona felt overwhelmed and walked away.
With many viewers suspecting a potential romance between Shona and Aitch, the rapper admitted he would “100%” like to get married.
Kelly and Martin also opened up about their own relationships — Kelly revealed that her husband Jeremy Parisi “never really proposed” because he was “petrified” after her five previous engagements, while Martin joked that Shirlie had “grabbed my collar and dragged me” into a jewellery shop to choose a ring.
Later, as Shona and Tom Read Wilson headed off to wash the dishes, she confided that she’d found it difficult to stay in the conversation, explaining she had recently gone through a breakup just before entering the jungle.
“I just couldn’t stay in that conversation,” she admitted. “It became overwhelming. When I arrived here, I’d only just split from my fiancé, so I had to walk away.”
Explaining that she left because she wouldn’t have known how to respond, Tom told her: “I think that was a very sensible choice.”
He continued: “Sometimes you just have to stay afloat where you are and trust that things will sort themselves out.”
Shona then shared: “I really want a family. I’d love to be a mum and a wife.”
Shona was seen without a ring when she flew to Australia following her split from Irish musician David Bracken, to whom she got engaged last year.
While Shona hasn’t publicly discussed the breakup, she shared a subtle message on Instagram recently reflecting a fresh start alongside her new single, Unapologetically Me:
“I’m finally learning to just be me — no filters, no apologies, no shrinking to make others comfortable. It’s a new beginning, and I’m stepping into life with an open heart and open arms. I’ve spent too long second-guessing myself, dimming my light, trying to fit into spaces that weren’t meant for me. But now it’s about freedom, embracing my flaws, owning my story, and living fully and authentically. From here on out… I’m unapologetically me.”
