Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden appeared on The One Show to give an update on her recovery, three weeks after undergoing her second mastectomy.

On tonight’s edition of The One Show, presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo welcomed broadcaster Sara Cox, EastEnders star Jake Wood, and Strictly Come Dancing favourite Amy Dowden to the studio.
Amy joined the BBC hosts on the iconic green sofa at the start of the programme before leaving to host one of the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
The beloved Welsh professional dancer, who has won hearts on Strictly, revealed earlier this month that she had undergone her second mastectomy following her initial breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023. She clarified that the procedure was not for a new cancer diagnosis but was carried out after consultations with her “incredible” medical team.
During the programme on November 28, Alex warmly remarked to Amy that it was “lovely” to see her in last week’s Blackpool Strictly episode, before asking how she was doing following her surgery.

“I’m feeling really well, thank you,” Amy said. “Three weeks ago today, I had my second mastectomy.
“The first week to ten days were a bit tough, but I’m feeling stronger every day, and I’m just eager to get back on the dance floor — once I’m fully recovered, of course,” she added. “I’m not rushing it, but overall, I’m doing really well, thank you.”
Earlier this month, Amy also reassured her social media followers that she expected a “straightforward recovery,” adding, “Once I’ve healed, I can’t wait to rejoin my Strictly family.”

Clara asked about the special connection between Amy and Lynn Griffiths, the Welsh headteacher to whom she presented tonight’s award, according to Wales Online.
Amy explained: “My cousin’s children go to that school, so it’s really special. Being a Caerphilly girl, I’m very proud.”
Alex emphasized the important role teachers play in shaping lives, and Amy agreed: “Absolutely. For me, Philip Perry has been pivotal. I wouldn’t be the person I am today, and I wouldn’t have achieved half of what I have without him. There are no words to truly thank him for everything he’s done. So, thank you so much, Philip, from the bottom of my heart. Teachers have such a massive, massive impact.”

Later, Amy presented Lynn with a lifetime achievement award, leaving him “shocked but immensely proud.”
In other parts of the show, Sara spoke about her recovery after completing a monumental 135-mile run, which raised over £9.5 million for Children in Need. She also discussed her touching new series, The Marvellous Miniatures Workshop, which follows professional model makers as they recreate places, people, and iconic moments in time.
Meanwhile, Jake offered insights into his return to EastEnders and discussed the soap’s first-ever flash-forward episode.
