General Hospital spoilers tease that although Laura Collins (Genie Francis) just secured another four-year term as Mayor of Port Charles, there’s no guarantee she’ll actually keep the job. Laura is quietly falling apart under the weight of what happened with Professor Henry “Hank” Dalton (Daniel Goddard) and the role she played in his disappearance.

Discovering Dalton’s lifeless body stuffed in the trunk of her own car left her horrified. Never in a million years did she picture herself calling Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) in a panic — but that’s exactly what she did. And she certainly didn’t expect him to take matters into his own hands quite so aggressively.

Laura might have appreciated a little warning, a plan, or even a simple discussion before Sonny barreled ahead, cleaning up a murder and dragging her into the fallout. Now the real question is who will uncover the truth first — that Laura and Sonny secretly worked together to cover up Dalton’s death.

This Was Never Going to Be Clean

It always seemed far too convenient that someone planted Dalton’s body in Laura’s trunk with no apparent endgame. Whoever orchestrated this clearly intended for her to look guilty — for Dalton’s blood to figuratively (and almost literally) be on her hands.

And placing his corpse in her car would have accomplished nothing unless someone was watching. Many fans suspect the mastermind — likely Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) — had someone tailing Laura from the start. Could Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) or Pascal (Marc Forget) have witnessed Sonny swoop in to save her? Or even watched Jason quietly take care of the remaining evidence?

GH Spoilers: Laura’s Opposition Gets Another Shot?

Laura thinks she knows who was behind the setup, but is she focusing on the right person — the one who has the most to gain? On the surface, Ezra Boyle (Daniel Cosgrove), who narrowly lost the mayoral race, seems like an obvious suspect.

But Ezra was merely a tool for Drew — and by extension, Sidwell. His campaign helped drive a power grab for control over Port Charles’ waterfront. If Laura is suddenly ousted over a scandal, could Ezra slide into the mayor’s seat? And what would that mean for the future of Port Chuck?

She Might Choose the High Road

Rumors that Laura won’t remain mayor don’t necessarily imply impeachment or an overturned election. It could simply mean that Laura steps down voluntarily, unable to live with the choices she made and how her actions mirror exactly what her opponents accused her of — being too close to Sonny.

Laura has always valued her conscience far more than political power. But Sonny won’t be eager to see her confess and blow everything wide open. Things are about to get messy. Will Laura’s guilt push her to defy Sonny, and will he allow her to follow her moral compass?
