“An Emmerdale actor has confirmed he is leaving the ITV soap, just weeks after starring in a controversial Vinny Dingle storyline that sparked a major Ofcom complaint.”

A dark storyline is set to conclude as Emmerdale star Macaulay Cooper has confirmed he is leaving the ITV soap.
His role as the vile blackmailer Mike even prompted a major Ofcom complaint from viewers after the character’s assault and manipulation of fan-favourite Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) in a recent emotional plot.
Cooper announced his departure on social media, declaring: “It’s a wrap!”
Alongside photos outside the Woolpack and snapshots with Emmerdale cast members, including Lisa Riley, Shebz Miah, and Johnson, he shared a heartfelt message reflecting on his time on the show.
The actor wrote: “That’s a wrap! After an unforgettable journey, all of my Emmerdale episodes have now aired. I feel incredibly grateful for this experience, and this has been one of my favourite jobs to date.”

Macaulay added: “A huge thank you to everyone who watched and sent such kind messages—your support has truly meant the world to me!”
He went on: “Playing Mike was a challenge given the character’s actions, but it was an honour. This storyline—though difficult—reflects situations that sadly happen in real life, and I hope our portrayal helps raise important awareness.”
“To the entire Emmerdale cast, crew, and casting team: thank you for your support, hard work, and for making me feel like part of the family. What an amazing team!”
Macaulay also praised his on-screen co-star, saying: “Huge thanks to [Bradley Jackson] for being with me from my very first to my last day on set—he made the entire experience so much better,” according to the Express.

“You absolutely nailed this challenging storyline as ‘Vinny’ and deserve all the praise for your amazing performance. It’s been a pleasure working with you,” Macaulay said.
He also thanked his girlfriend, Abbie Jones, for supporting him through the preparation, filming, and self-tape process, encouraging him not to give up.
“Onto the next chapter of my journey, with many more to come. Mike, signing off,” Macaulay concluded.
His heartfelt post received an outpouring of support from fans and Emmerdale co-stars. Johnson, who plays Vinny, led the comments: “Legend! Been an absolute pleasure, mate. Hope we get to work together again soon.”
Miah, who plays Kammy Hadiq, added: “Well done, bruddaaaaa—smashed it.”

One fan commented: “Well done, Macaulay. It was a difficult storyline, but as you said, it was important for raising awareness. You portrayed the role incredibly well and made it very believable.”
Another added: “It was an uncomfortable but brilliant storyline—and, as you mentioned, very important. Thank you!”
A third echoed similar sentiments: “Well done, Macaulay. A tough storyline, but as you said, crucial for awareness. You played the part superbly and made it believable. Good luck with your next project—I hope to see you on screen again soon.”

Fans will remember that Mike, who first appeared in August, was at the centre of a controversial storyline that led to a wave of Ofcom complaints.
Mike formed a friendship with Vinny after meeting him on an online forum. The drama escalated when Mike demanded £10,000 from Vinny, threatening to out his sexuality to his fiancée, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).
In his final episode, justice prevailed as Mike was arrested and imprisoned after Vinny bravely reported him to the police.
