Coronation Street fans believe the show could soon be saying goodbye to Kevin Webster.
Kevin (played by Michael Le Vell), who first appeared on the soap back in 1983, has faced a tough time on the long-running series lately. Earlier this year, his world was turned upside down after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Thankfully, his loved ones—wife Abi (Sally Carman) and sister Debbie (Sue Devaney)—rallied around him. Debbie, however, faced her own devastating challenge when she was diagnosed with vascular dementia.
Adding to the family’s troubles, Kevin and Debbie’s brother Carl (Jonathan Howard) recently made his first appearance after years living in Germany, and it didn’t take long before he stirred up drama in Weatherfield.
Kevin’s wife Abi couldn’t resist her growing feelings for Carl, despite trying to fight her attraction to her brother-in-law. Eventually, the two gave in to temptation and began a secret affair, especially after Abi discovered that Kevin had lied about still having cancer.
Their secret didn’t stay hidden for long, though — Kevin’s sister Debbie eventually uncovered the truth and was furious over their betrayal. However, despite her anger, she decided to keep quiet for the sake of Kevin’s children.
In Wednesday’s episode (October 8), Kevin finally discovered the truth about Abi and his brother’s affair after Abi made a major slip-up during a family birthday celebration.
Furious over the betrayal, Kevin confronted Abi. Later, after taking some time to cool off, he opened up to her in an emotional heart-to-heart. Still deeply in love with his wife, Kevin suggested they try to move past it and rebuild their marriage. Sadly, his hopes were crushed when Abi admitted that she’s in love with Carl.
Elsewhere, Debbie comforted a heartbroken Kevin — but kept quiet about the fact that she already knew about the affair.
Now, in what could be a heartbreaking twist, fans are worried that Kevin might be heading for an exit. On a Corrie Facebook fan page, one viewer asked: “Are they setting up a male suicide storyline for Kevin?”
Another commented: “They might be — just like they did with Aidan,” referencing Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward), who tragically took his own life in 2018. A third fan agreed, saying: “I was thinking the same, it’s so sad after everything he’s been through.” Meanwhile, another viewer added: “I really hope not — he’s better off without Abi!”
