EastEnders viewers were shocked as the BBC soap overlooked Big Mo Harris’ milestone birthday after 25 years on the show.
EastEnders icon Big Mo Harris has reached a milestone birthday, leaving fans surprised by the character’s real age.
Earlier this week on the BBC drama, Big Mo — played by Laila Morse — returned to Walford after a four-month absence, during which she had been caring for her granddaughter, Lynne Slater (Elaine Lordan), who had suffered a broken leg.
While Mo was away, the Slater family discovered that Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) is actually the daughter of Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) and Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey).
Upon her return, Mo was delighted to catch up with Jake Moon (Joel Beckett), but she was far from happy to find Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) back behind the bar at The Queen Vic.
Alongside Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf), Big Mo kept an eye on the pair while Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) went in search of Jasmine, determined to bring her back and secure a confession from Anthony’s killer, according to OK!.
Jasmine eventually confessed to murdering her father on Christmas Day and was taken into custody at The Queen Vic, shocking the local residents. She was later formally charged with the crime.
Despite Jasmine being held for Anthony’s death, Zoe refused to let her daughter bear the guilt alone. Meanwhile, Chrissie was thrilled to clear her name after the Slaters initially suspected her as the main culprit.
Amid all the drama surrounding the Slater family, EastEnders fans were left disappointed when the BBC show failed to mark Big Mo’s milestone birthday, as the much-loved character celebrates her 90th.
Laila Morse, 80, is best known for portraying Big Mo Harris on EastEnders since 2000, even though her character is written as being a decade older than her.
The revelation of Big Mo’s true age has left soap fans stunned. On Reddit, one viewer asked: “She’s supposed to be 89 now? I would never have guessed that lol,” while another admitted: “I couldn’t believe it either — I had to check Wikipedia during the VE Day episodes because she said she remembered the Blitz.”
A third fan expressed shock: “I had no idea she was almost 90! The actress is 80, so why did they make her character ten years older?” Another echoed the surprise: “SHE’S 90?”
One fan remarked: “What’s wild to me is that Big Mo (in the show) is only a few months older than Dot. Yet June Brown was 18 years older than Laila Morse.”
On X, another EastEnders fan commented: “Mo Harris turns 90 today, and the show still hasn’t acknowledged it. #EastEnders.”
