Emmerdale and Coronation Street are set to come together for a special crossover episode next year.
It was revealed in May that Emmerdale and Coronation Street would join forces for a special one-off episode, bringing together characters from both the Dales and Weatherfield in a first-of-its-kind event.
While most details about the crossover remain under wraps, ITV has now confirmed that filming for Corriedale has officially started.
The teams behind both soaps have collaborated on an “ambitious stunt” that promises to have “lasting repercussions for everyone involved.”
ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, Iain Macleod, said: “It’s incredibly exciting that production on Corriedale is underway. There’s a huge buzz across both the Manchester and Leeds sets, and the footage from the shoot looks absolutely stunning.”

“That’s not even mentioning the incredible cross-Pennine interactions between characters from both shows! As a lifelong soap fan, I honestly think my mind will explode when the episode airs next year. It’s going to be groundbreaking, unforgettable, and absolutely unmissable.”
With the special episode set to air early next year, here are some of the most talked-about crossover fan theories.
1. The Return of John Sugden

John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) crimes were recently brought to light in the Dales.
The villain infamously drove himself and his husband, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), off a cliff before coercing Caleb Miligan (William Ash) into aiding his escape overseas.
Just a few days after his departure from the village, sharp-eyed fans noticed a wanted poster featuring John’s face inside Weatherfield Police Station. This discovery has led many viewers to believe that the poster could be teasing John’s return in the upcoming crossover episode.
“I reckon John will be caught in the Corriedale special,” one fan shared on Facebook, while another speculated, “What if John gets killed off during the crossover episode?”
2. Lisa Swain’s Hidden Sister

Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was recently reunited with her ex-wife, Becky (Amy Cudden), who she had believed to be dead for four years.
To conceal Becky’s true identity from the locals, Lisa has been pretending that Becky is her sister, Kim. Now, many fans are speculating that Lisa might actually be related to Emmerdale legend Kim Tate (Claire King), with the family link possibly revealed in the crossover special.
“Can you imagine Lisa Swain and Kim Tate finally crossing paths in the Corriedale episode?” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter), while another added: “What if Lisa really does have a sister named Kim — and it’s actually Kim Tate?!”
At the same time, some viewers are theorizing that Lisa could turn out to be Vanessa Woodfield’s (Michelle Hardwick) sister.
3. Ray Walters’ True Boss

Corrie fans will remember that Becky Swain faked her death after going undercover to infiltrate a dangerous drug gang as part of a secret police mission.
Over in Emmerdale, a similar drug-related storyline has been unfolding, with April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) reluctantly selling drugs for Ray Walters (Joe Absolom).
Recently, it was revealed that local farmer Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) was the true mastermind behind the operation — and Ray’s mother.
Now, many soap fans believe the two storylines could be connected, with Becky potentially becoming entangled with Ray and Celia in Corriedale.
“For the crossover, could Becky from Corrie actually be Ray’s boss?” one fan speculated, while another added, “What if Celia took Becky under her wing the same way she did Ray — or even had her working for her?”
4. The Death of Billy Mayhew

Daniel Brocklebank, who has portrayed Billy Mayhew on Coronation Street since 2014, is set to depart the soap in a major storyline that will unfold on screen soon.
Just two months after his exit was announced, reports surfaced suggesting that Billy’s character will be killed off in “explosive” scenes. According to The Sun, producers are considering scheduling his death around Christmas or New Year’s to create maximum dramatic impact.
In light of these reports, some fans are now wondering if Billy’s tragic end could take place during the upcoming crossover event.
“I reckon Billy’s going to die in the crossover,” one viewer posted, while another speculated, “What if John Sugden ends up killing Billy during the Corrie and Emmerdale crossover?”
5. A ‘Vanity’ Reunion

Emmerdale viewers have long been hoping for a reunion between Vanessa and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), especially after the pair shared a drunken kiss earlier this year.
Fans of the ITV soap will remember their complicated love story — Vanessa stood by Charity through her harrowing rape trial in 2018, and the two later got engaged in 2019. However, their relationship fell apart when Charity cheated on Vanessa with her now-husband, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
As the crossover episode approaches, many fans are speculating that Coronation Street’s powerhouse duo, Lisa Swain and Carla Connor (Alison King), might play a part in rekindling Charity and Vanessa’s romance.
“Swala better be the reason Vanity reunites,” one excited fan wrote, while another added, “I’d love to see Lisa and Carla help bring Vanity back together.”
