Coronation Street is preparing major storylines this Christmas and into the New Year, featuring a crossover with the ITV soap.
Coronation Street is gearing up for major festive episodes this Christmas, featuring shocking revelations and a joyful wedding.
But the excitement continues into the New Year, as soap fans can look forward to a special crossover event that unites the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale for the very first time in Corriedale.
Filming is already underway for the one-off celebration bringing together characters from Weatherfield and their Yorkshire neighbours in an action-packed hour of drama.
Hinting at what’s to come over Christmas and into the New Year, Corrie producer Kate Brooks shared at a press event on Friday:
“There’s so much happening on Christmas Day. It’s very family-oriented, with the Driscolls taking centre stage. It’s a proper pub Christmas — full of community spirit, fun, and surprises. Secrets will be uncovered, and there’s plenty of warmth and drama mixed in for a truly feel-good festive episode.”
“But in the lead-up to that, we’ve got plenty of storylines building,” Kate explained. “Ronnie and Debbie are eager to get their wedding plans moving, so there’s lots of fun and chaos surrounding all the preparations. And just to confirm — it’s not taking place at the Chariot Square!”
Sharing more about what’s coming up over the festive period, she continued: “Alongside that, we’ve got another big storyline involving Carla, Lisa, and Becky, which really kicks into high gear around Christmas. There are some major twists that will keep viewers gripped as everything unfolds. It’s a huge story that’ll play a major part in our Christmas episodes.”
Kate added: “Then we’ve got Todd and Theo — and Christmas, as we know, can be a difficult time for many people. We wanted to highlight their journey in a very emotional and meaningful way. In the run-up to Christmas, there’s a particularly special episode focusing on their relationship. It’s told in a completely fresh and never-before-seen style that will really make an impact on multiple levels.”
“So that storyline is really starting to take shape now, with Todd becoming more deeply involved in it,” Kate revealed. “Those are some of the major plots we’ve got going on, and of course, the Websters, Abi, Carl, and James are still at the heart of things — along with Tyrone and Fiz.
Abi has no idea what’s really going on, and just like her, Tyrone doesn’t realise Carl is behind the car situation. There’s a lot brewing beneath the surface, and things are about to explode.”
Speaking about Corriedale and the upcoming crossover, Kate added: “Filming is going fantastically well — everything’s coming together beautifully. We’ve got an amazing director and a fantastic script. The cast are absolutely loving it because it’s something completely new and different from anything they’ve done before. I’ve been on set a few times, and the atmosphere is incredible — there’s such great energy and teamwork, with everyone enjoying collaborating with new faces.”
“It’s honestly so exciting,” Kate said enthusiastically. “I can’t stop picturing my mum’s reaction when she watches it — she’s going to be absolutely thrilled. For any soap fan, the idea of seeing your favourite characters from two beloved shows come together in one huge, must-see event is just incredible.”
She continued, “It really is something special. Even if I didn’t work in soaps, I’d be buzzing for this because it’s truly a soap fan’s dream come true. We’ve worked hard to capture everything that makes both shows distinctive while also celebrating the shared magic that makes soap such brilliant television. It’s going to be a real treat — packed with that classic soap energy fans love.”
As a final tease, Kate hinted that fans should keep their eyes peeled for hidden Easter eggs within the episode and on posters leading up to the big crossover event.
