“An ITV Coronation Street star required emergency medical care following a frightening encounter with a monkey during a family holiday.”

A Coronation Street actor has taken to social media to share shocking news that he was attacked by a monkey while on holiday.

Liam Scholes, 22, who previously played Eli Higginson on ITV’s flagship soap and is now better known for his role as Noel McManus in BBC’s school drama Waterloo Road, posted an Instagram video showing himself in a hospital bed with an IV in his hand.

Teasing that he would tell the full story soon, Liam wrote: “When you nearly get killed by a monkey in the desert… game over. Wait for the reel, guys… just you wait,” alongside several crying emojis.

The young actor, who is currently dating Roisin Riley, thanked his girlfriend for her support, calling her his “lifesaver” during the frightening incident. In a follow-up Instagram Story, he joked: “Liam Scholes doesn’t have the same monkey luck as the rest of the Scholes clan. Monkey 1, Liam 0.”

He also shared photos of his family having what looked like calm encounters with the monkey, according to the Mirror.

During his time on Coronation Street, Liam played a friend of Corey Brent, who was involved in the violent attack that led to Seb Franklin’s death. He was previously in a relationship with co-star Elle Mulvaney, who has played Amy Barlow for over a decade. However, the pair have since split, and earlier this year Elle was seen getting close to another man.

A source told The Mirror about the obvious spark between Elle and her new partner, noting that they appeared comfortable together and weren’t afraid to show affection. “Elle and the guy looked really happy in each other’s company. They didn’t hide their closeness from those around them and seemed very cosy. Elle seemed relaxed, and it’s clear she’s moved on from Liam,” the insider added.

Elle and Liam ended their two-year romance after being practically inseparable and doing almost everything together.

When the split occurred, someone close to the former couple revealed: “Elle and Liam were young love incarnate, doing everything together. Their breakup really shocked their co-stars and families, and no one really knows what happened.”

The source also described the split as “very sudden.”

The same source also revealed that both Elle and Liam have told friends it would take a “miracle” for them to reconcile.

Elle and Liam began dating in 2022, and their relationship initially flourished. The former couple even spent Christmas together in 2023, with Elle posting a festive photo on Instagram on the day. In the picture, they were seen cuddling beside a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.

The tree featured large baubles, crown ornaments, and stars, while Elle looked stunning in a black dress with sparkling accents and strappy white heels.

Elle captioned the post simply: “Christmas 2023,” and fans were quick to share their excitement. Coronation Street actress Harriet Bibby commented: “Merry Christmas you gorgeous pair,” among many other well-wishers.

Elle has previously spoken warmly about her relationship with Liam, highlighting how his understanding of her demanding acting schedule made a big difference.

In a March interview with OK! Magazine, she said: “He’s been brilliant… because he’s an actor too, he knows what it involves. He’s handled his fair share of backlash from his time playing Eli in Corrie. He’s always supportive, and if I’ve had a bad day he’ll say, ‘Let’s go for a Chinese…’”

When asked if she considered it true love, Elle replied enthusiastically: “Yes! It’s going well, it’s going very well.”
