The ITV soap Coronation Street could be preparing to part ways with a divisive character.

Coronation Street seems to have hinted that a resident of the cobbles is preparing to depart following a rocky and controversial time on the show.
In addition, the Weatherfield ladies’ man has been involved romantically with several locals since arriving — including Kevin’s wife, Abi (Sally Carman).

In August, viewers were stunned when Carl ended up in bed with James Bailey (Jason Callender). The scene showed James waiting under the duvet, while Carl appeared wearing nothing but a towel.
Soon after the episode was broadcast, Ofcom received 55 complaints from disgruntled viewers. A spokesperson confirmed the complaints were “in relation to sexual content shown before the watershed.”

Since then, Abi and Carl have taken their relationship public and recently moved into a place of their own. But as Carl begins to realise that a future with Abi also involves helping raise her young son, Alfie, he’s started to show doubts.
In Friday’s episode (November 21), when Abi told him that she, Carl and Alfie “would be a proper little family,” he looked visibly unsettled. Later, he secretly phoned a friend in Germany.
During the call, Carl admitted that “things haven’t really worked out” for him in the UK and asked if there were any flats available to rent. Seemingly confirming he plans to leave Weatherfield, he added: “It’ll just be me. Flying solo.”

Back in September, Jonathan — who plays Carl — appeared on Loose Women to discuss his character’s unfolding drama in Weatherfield, where he revealed that he hadn’t known about Carl’s sexuality before taking on the role.
During the chat, panellist Nadia Sawalha asked: “Did you know he was going to be fluid when you auditioned?” Jonathan responded: “I didn’t, actually, no.
“About a month into filming, they sat me down and explained the direction they wanted to take. From a storytelling perspective, I think it’s great. Soap audiences have seen almost everything, so being able to genuinely surprise them and keep them guessing is brilliant.”
