“Coronation Street fans are calling for an ‘unlikely friendship’ following Ken’s return to the Cobbles.”
Coronation Street fans have voiced their excitement following Ken Barlow’s surprise return to the Cobbles.
The Weatherfield veteran, played by ITV legend William ‘Bill’ Roache, had been away for a while, leaving viewers wondering about his absence back in July.
A few weeks ago, Ken was spotted back at No. 1 Coronation Street, and in Monday’s (October 6) episode, he was seen chatting with Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey).
The teenager had unexpectedly been left in charge of the corner shop after a distressed Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) stepped away. Brody grew curious about the book Ken was carrying, which turned out to be about the Spanish Civil War.
Ken mentioned he was revisiting the book, but when he asked the troubled teenager if he recognised the author, Brody shook his head and feigned interest before admitting: “I hated history at school,” reports the Manchester Evening News.
It was Brody’s next comment that caught Ken’s attention. He explained: “In the STC [Secure Training Centre], we had a teacher called Mr Osbourne, and he tried to get us to read this World War One poem.”
“Sounds wonderful. In fact, the Mr Osbourne you’re referring to is my…” Ken started to reply, but Brody interrupted, muttering: “He’d read us these poems and he’d get tears in his eyes.”
Ken looked unimpressed as Brody abruptly changed the subject, asking: “Have you got the right money?”
Corrie fans loved the exchange and were also struck by Ken’s seemingly ‘ageless’ appearance.
On X, one viewer commented: “Give Brody and Ken a friendship — like Patrick and Oscar in #EastEnders. It could be a great way to redeem Brody’s character. #Corrie.”
Another fan wrote: “Ken Barlow and Brody Michaelis?!? Never thought I’d see the day those two would interact… #Corrie.”

“Ken looks 21 — reading about the Spanish Civil War keeps you young #Corrie,” joked one viewer.
