Coronation Street viewers were left shocked on Monday night when James Bailey revealed his true age on the ITV soap, as many believed he was much older.
Coronation Street fans were left stunned when James Bailey revealed his age on the beloved ITV soap. James, the son of Ed and Aggie Bailey and brother to Dee Dee and Michael, first arrived on the cobbles in 2019.
The Bailey family quickly found themselves in the spotlight as patriarch Ed battled a gambling addiction. Meanwhile, James faced his own struggles, particularly with coming out as gay while pursuing his career as a professional footballer for Weatherfield County FC.
Things took a heartbreaking turn when James was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and was ultimately dropped from the team. Afterward, he and his boyfriend, Danny, decided to move to the United States to begin a new chapter together, hoping to start a family. In a touching twist, James made an arrangement with his pregnant sister, Dee Dee, to raise her baby as his own.
However, after Danny ended their relationship, Dee Dee reconsidered her decision, and the pair ultimately agreed to co-parent baby Laila, according to the Liverpool Echo.
More recently, James has found himself caught up in a secret affair with newcomer Carl Webster, both of whom returned to the cobbles earlier this year.
Viewers were also surprised to see a new face portraying James Bailey. The role has now been taken over by Jason Callender, who replaced Nathan Graham, the original actor from 2019 to 2022.
Jason has quickly settled into life on the street, taking part in several major storylines. Most recently, a brand-new family arrived in Weatherfield as the latest owners of the Rovers Return.
The Driscoll family is made up of Eva Price, her partner Ben Driscoll, and their children, Eva, Will, and Ollie.
In Monday’s episode, Eva asked James to give Will a personal training session, as the youngster has been struggling to settle after the family’s move to Manchester.
However, during their chat, James casually revealed that he’s 25 years old — a revelation that left viewers completely shocked. Considering the number of dramatic storylines he’s been part of since arriving on the cobbles, many fans had assumed he was much older.
Following the revelation, viewers rushed to social media to share their disbelief. One stunned fan wrote, “25?” while another questioned, “How are we supposed to believe James is 25?!”
A third viewer added, “Wow, James in #Corrie just said he’s 25 — the previous actor is 34, and the new one is 35.”
The latest actor to play James joined the show along with Jonathan Howard, who portrays Carl Webster, and James Cartwright, who takes on the role of Theo Silverton.
