A fan-favourite Coronation Street star was reportedly approached by BBC producers to take part in Celebrity Traitors.
A Coronation Street icon has explained why they had to decline an invitation to join this year’s edition of Celebrity Traitors.
The BBC’s hit murder mystery show — fronted by TV favourite Claudia Winkleman — made its return last month with its first-ever celebrity series.
The line-up featured big names such as Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Clare Balding, singer Cat Burns, and comedian Lucy Richardson.
In the show, the celebrity contestants compete to win up to £100,000 for their chosen charities by identifying and eliminating the Traitors inside the famous Scottish castle.
After weeks filled with deception, backstabbing, and suspense, the series wrapped up this week with Traitor Alan crowned the winner, taking home £87,500 for the children’s charity Neuroblastoma UK — a donation he said would “change lives.”
However, it turns out that Celebrity Traitors 2025 almost featured a huge Coronation Street star. Last month, David Platt actor Jack P. Shepherd revealed that he’d been approached to take part, admitting, “I got asked about Traitors, but I can’t because it’s BBC.”
In a recent episode of his On The Sofa podcast, Jack explained that ITV had actually been perfectly fine with him joining the show.
Jack revealed that he was “availability checked” ahead of the first Celebrity Traitors series and said: “I thought I couldn’t do it because it’s ITV and BBC. But apparently, I actually could have! [Been allowed to appear on the show].”
He went on to explain: “ITV later told me, ‘Really? We would’ve absolutely let you do it,’ but I said, ‘You wouldn’t have, because I was filming at the time anyway, so it wouldn’t have been possible.’”
Jack — who has starred in Coronation Street since the age of 12 — hinted he might take part in the next season of Celebrity Traitors. When his co-host Colson Smith asked, “So, are we seeing you on the next series?” Jack grinned and said, “I don’t know.”
The soap favourite is no stranger to reality TV. Earlier this year, he captured viewers’ hearts on Celebrity Big Brother, going on to win the 24th series of the show, beating radio host Danny Beard and Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa to the top spot.
