“A soap legend from Coronation Street may return for the upcoming landmark crossover with Emmerdale.”
Coronation Street fans are convinced that a soap legend is set to make her return, with many speculating it will be for the Emmerdale crossover episode.
Early next year, in a first for British soaps, an hour-long special will bring characters from both shows together in a celebration of the genre.
The special, scheduled to air in January, is said to have “lasting consequences for everyone involved,” linking the Manchester and Yorkshire worlds of the two soaps in an “ingenious way.”
While plot details remain secret, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod revealed in September that a major character will be killed off, saying: “The soap gods demand a sacrifice when you have an event of this kind.”
He also discussed soap comebacks, hinting at the return of “a few familiar faces.” Now, viewers think they may have “figured out” who is coming back to the cobbles for the historic episode after spotting a major “clue.”
Recently, Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald, sent fans into a frenzy when she posted a video on her TikTok. In the clip, she showcased her outfit while at home.
“Been filming this morning. Don’t often wear Lycra these days, and the jewellery isn’t very tasteful either, but never mind!” Liz joked, dressed in a black skintight top, low-rise belt, and black denim jeans.
Although she didn’t specify what she was filming, fans immediately speculated it could be for “Corriedale,” thinking she might be reprising her role as the beloved barmaid Liz McDonald.
On X, one user asked: “Sorry, does this mean what I think it means!? Is Ar Liz returning to the cobbles!?” Another added: “Maybe she’s coming back for the big soap crossover?”
A third fan commented: “Omg! She’s definitely part of the crossover.” Another added: “Wait!!!!! Is this for the cobbles???? I need answers!”
Liz first appeared on the cobbles in 1989 alongside the rest of the McDonald family, including her husband Jim (Charles Lawson) and their twin sons Steve (Simon Gregson) and Andy (Nicholas Cochrane).
For three decades, she was a regular character and featured in numerous major storylines. From steamy affairs to fiery feuds, Liz’s time in Weatherfield was full of drama.
However, in 2019, Beverley Callard broke fans’ hearts by announcing her departure from the soap. The iconic character officially said goodbye a year later.
