“The Emmerdale star who plays Charity Dingle hinted at an upcoming storyline for the crossover.”
A new storyline for the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover has been teased.
During a recent appearance on This Morning, Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, hinted that her character could be involved in a romance with Corrie’s Carla Connor.
The crossover episode is scheduled to air in January, giving viewers the chance to vote for one of four scenes featuring a Coronation Street star alongside an Emmerdale star to appear on their screens.
Speaking about the “top secret” plans, Emma told Sharon Marshall: “It’s safe to say it’s a pretty big deal who I’ll be working with; it’s none other than Alison King, aka Carla Connor.”
Sharon responded: “I do know a bit of gossip, since Carla and Lisa are splitting up.”
Emma, playing it cool, replied: “What’s your point, Sharon?”
“Does this mean the crossover is happening in more ways than one?” Sharon asked.
“There’s a hint of flirtation, but that’s all I can say for now. We’ll just have to wait and see,” Emma teased.
While the possibility of a new romance excited some, fans were left upset at the thought of Carla and Lisa ending their relationship.
One fan wrote: “Oh noooo!! I really hope if it’s a breakup, it’s only temporary. I love them together.”
Another added: “I just want Carla to have her happy ending—she’s always been through so much. It breaks my heart.”
Filming for the soap crossover episode began at the end of September, though plot details are still being kept tightly under wraps.
Iain Macleod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, said: “It’s incredibly exciting that filming is now underway on Corriedale.”
“There’s an incredible buzz at both the Leeds and Manchester sets, and the photos coming from the shoot look absolutely stunning.
“And that’s not even taking into account all the fantastic interactions between characters from the two shows!
“As a soap fan myself, I think my mind will be blown when the episode airs next year. It’s going to be historic, unforgettable, and unmissable.”
