Coronation Street fans are convinced that Debbie Webster has a long-lost child, who is already living on the cobbles.
Debbie (Sue Devaney) first joined the soap in 1984 as Kevin’s (Michael Le Vell) sister. She left after a year but returned to the show in 2019.
Since her return, Debbie has become a firm favourite with viewers. Recently, though, the beloved cobbles resident has faced a dramatic few months.
Earlier this year, Kevin’s life was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Around the same time, Debbie and Kevin’s estranged brother Carl (Jonathan Howard) reappeared after living in Germany for several years.
In a heartbreaking development, Debbie was diagnosed with vascular dementia, a condition that currently has no cure. Despite this, she is determined to live life to the fullest, with her family by her side.
This week, after delivering a speech at a women in business event, Debbie relaxed and enjoyed herself with fellow residents, including Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove).
After narrowly avoiding arrest, the group returned to Debbie’s and carried on drinking. During a heart-to-heart with the other women, Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) asked Debbie if she regretted not having children.
Debbie, however, seemed uneasy with the question, prompting Glenda to swiftly change the subject.
Now, fans are convinced that a secret child storyline could be on the horizon for Debbie — and many think they already know who it is. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “After tonight’s episode and Glenda asking Debbie about children, I really think it’s going to come out that Debbie had a child years ago.”
Another agreed: “I thought that too — she was off-screen for several years, remember.” A third added: “Yeah, maybe she had a child but gave them up for adoption?”
One fan then suggested Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) could be Debbie’s secret child, writing: “Lauren?” Another chimed in: “That’s a good idea — we’ve never seen Lauren’s mum on screen or know much about her.”
