Coronation Street’s Michelle Connor hasn’t appeared since 2019, but the soap has recently teased a major update for the fan-favorite character.
Coronation Street fans are devastated following a sad update about Michelle Connor.
Michelle (Kym Marsh) first appeared on the cobbles in 2006 and remained a regular for 13 years, during which she was at the center of numerous major storylines. From the death of her brothers to a shocking baby swap plot, Michelle’s time in Weatherfield was packed with drama. She also shared an iconic friendship with her sister-in-law Carla Connor (Alison King), which was hugely popular with viewers.
In 2019, Kym announced she was leaving the soap after 13 years, leaving fans heartbroken. Her final episode aired in December of that year.
Since leaving, Michelle has been referenced multiple times. In 2023, her son Ryan (Ryan Prescott) was involved in a horrific acid attack and subsequently left the cobbles to visit Michelle in Ireland.
This week, Carla also took a break from the cobbles to see Michelle. According to Carla’s fiancé, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), she was traveling there with Ryan due to “family stuff.”
However, fans have taken this as a possible hint that something might be wrong with Michelle. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have speculated about a shocking cancer storyline.
“Watch Carla come back and reveal Michelle is unwell or something,” one person commented. Another wrote: “Probably cancer!” while a third added: “I did wonder if something’s happened to her?”
Even though she left the soap over five years ago, Kym has hinted at a possible return on multiple occasions. Earlier this year, she told the Liverpool Echo: “Never say never. I’d like to think I would go back if it suited us both at the time.”
Speaking in August to The Mirror, Kym added: “It was left very much open, and if the chance and opportunity came along, I could always return if that’s what was wanted.
“So yes, there’s always the option for her to come back — unless they kill her off! There’s that possibility, and I just love that show. I will always love Coronation Street; it’s such a huge part of my life.”
