Coronation Street is gearing up for explosive scenes on the cobbles this December
Coronation Street spoilers have revealed that Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, may find herself in danger this Christmas.
Eva and her daughter Susie returned to the cobbles last month with her new family — partner Ben Driscoll, his mother Maggie, and Ben’s two sons, Ollie and Will.
Eva and Maggie, played by Pauline McLynn, aren’t exactly getting along, especially after Maggie used her money to buy the Rovers Return Inn.
In upcoming December episodes, a special flashback episode focusing on Maggie’s birthday will expose her true colours.
Viewers will see tensions rising in the Rovers and discover that there is far more to this family dynamic than meets the eye, as the flashback offers a look into Maggie’s past and reveals how she became the overbearing mother-in-law from hell.
Coronation Street has hinted: “Eva has made her dislike of Maggie very clear — and with the feeling seemingly mutual, viewers may be left wondering whether Eva should be watching her back. Just what is Maggie capable of?”
This comes as Maggie actress Pauline McLynn, 63, spoke exclusively to us about the drama ahead for the Driscoll family. Discussing Maggie’s backstory and the mystery surrounding her husband, Pauline said: “Yes, well… where is the husband? We’ll find out around Christmas, I’ll say that much.”
She continued: “We won’t be left hanging, wondering what the past is. There are two sons, of course. As actors, we’re told the general arc of what’s happened. And when I was at a producer’s meeting, I did ask, ‘I want to meet the other son.’ And they said, ‘We’re thinking about it…’”
Pauline continued: “Sometimes they keep you waiting, and it might be right before you get the script that it suddenly says, ‘So-and-so walks through the door.’ His name is Finlay, by the way.”
She added: “I don’t know… I think he’s younger than Aaron’s character, Ben. So I like to tease Aaron — even though I know nothing about Finlay — and say, ‘I’d say he’s the favourite son, isn’t he?’”
Pauline went on: “Honestly, it’s perfect for a bit of torment. And I think that’s very true to real families anyway, even if it never ends up on screen. The Driscoll family have some great fights.”
She explained: “And poor Ben — Maggie’s son — he’s stuck between two very strong women. He loves them both, but he’s really caught between a rock and a hard place.”
