Coronation Street fans were left annoyed on Wednesday evening (November 12) after the latest episode was delayed to make room for a Christmas advert.
Viewers eagerly awaiting the newest drama from Weatherfield had to wait an extra four minutes as Waitrose aired its festive commercial on ITV.
The advert, featuring Joe Wilkinson and Keira Knightley, kicked off the countdown to Christmas, but its short romantic storyline didn’t win over everyone.
Taking to X, a frustrated Corrie fan wrote: “Why on Earth has Waitrose bought a full 5-minute slot for a Christmas ad? #Corrie.”
A second frustrated viewer commented: “What the **** is this and where’s #Corrie? It’s November 12th,” according to the Liverpool Echo.
Another shared their annoyance, saying: “Switched on Corrie and Joe Wilkinson appears instead—proper bo #corrie.”
One exasperated fan added: “S*d off Waitrose. You ain’t Phil, Joe #Corrie,” while another asked: “What the **** is this long advert #corrie.”
Waitrose’s Christmas campaign is an ambitious four-minute romantic comedy, starring the well-known actors in a festive story centered on culinary romance.
Directed by BAFTA-winning Molly Manners, the advert highlights the growing romance between Keira and Joe’s characters, who are brought together through their shared passion for food.
The commercial begins with the two meeting at a Waitrose cheese counter and builds to a climax when Joe, reprising his role as Phil from the grocer’s 2024 festive “whodunnit” campaign, recreates Keira’s Nan’s turkey pie recipe.
Meanwhile, in the latest episode of Coronation Street (November 12), Shona (Julia Goulding) and David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) face an emotional challenge.
The special episode focuses on the couple after a scan reveals their unborn baby may have a mass on her neck, putting them in a heart-wrenching situation.
The episode begins from Shona’s perspective, showing her frustration with David’s apparently detached demeanor as they prepare for their important consultation.
Later, the story shifts to David’s viewpoint, revealing his desperate efforts to be there for his wife while worrying that he might say the wrong thing.
Shona and David are then given devastating news: their unborn daughter has a tumour on her neck, and if they choose to continue with the pregnancy, Shona will face a complex and high-risk surgical procedure.
