Coronation Street may be bringing back Aidan Connor in a potential storyline twist that could change everything.
Coronation Street viewers are speculating that Aidan Connor could be making a comeback.
Aidan, portrayed by Shayne Ward, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2015 as Carla Connor’s (Alison King) half-brother and the son of Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley).
It didn’t take long for Aidan to become a fan favourite, with the Underworld Factory boss at the centre of several major storylines — many of which involved his turbulent love life.
In 2017, he began an affair with Maria (Samia Longchambon) while engaged to Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley), leading to a dramatic soap-style showdown when the secret was revealed — culminating in Maria and Eva’s iconic catfight in a wedding-day fountain scene.
In 2018, Aidan began battling depression and suicidal thoughts in secret, which tragically led to him taking his own life in emotional scenes later that year.
His death deeply affected those closest to him, particularly Eva, who had just given birth to their daughter, Susie.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Eva recently made an unexpected return to the cobbles after nearly a decade away.
Alongside Eva’s return to the cobbles, she arrived with Susie and her new family: partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker), his mother Maggie (Pauline McLynn), and his two sons, Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) and Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).
With Eva back on the soap, fans are now speculating that Aidan Connor could make an appearance in the form of a hallucination. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one user commented: “Now that Eva is back, maybe Aidan could appear as a hallucination at some point.”
Another added: “They’ve done it before, so never say never.” A third chimed in: “Aw, I’d so love that!” Similarly, one more fan wrote: “I’ve been thinking that as well.”
Earlier this year, Shayne Ward, the actor who played Aidan, hinted at the possibility of returning to the cobbles despite his character’s tragic death. Reflecting on his time as Aidan, Shayne said: “I loved it. I felt very honoured to be trusted with that powerful suicide storyline addressing men’s mental health. I’m really proud of it.”
He also admitted that he misses life on the soap and often thinks about returning to Weatherfield. “There are moments when I think about what I’d give to walk those cobbles again, which I probably will do with my kids to show them what it feels like to walk on the famous cobbles,” he shared.
“But I had an amazing experience and learned from some of the best people on the show, so I feel very lucky.”
