Ben Driscoll from Coronation Street may have a secret brother, leaving fans stunned.
Fans of Coronation Street believe they’ve uncovered Ben Driscoll’s secret brother — and he’s already a cobbles favourite.
Viewers will remember that Ben (Aaron McCusker) arrived in Weatherfield last year with his family. His relatives include his two sons, Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) and Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale), his overbearing mother Maggie (Pauline McLynn), and his partner Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley), who returned to the cobbles after seven years.
Ben made waves on the street when he bought the Rovers Return from Carla Connor (Alison King) as a surprise for Eva, with Maggie contributing the remaining funds.
The newcomer has quickly made his presence felt among the locals. He had to defend his son Will after he was accused of attacking Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), which Will had in fact done. But the drama doesn’t end there — Will is also being groomed by his sports coach, Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), who is expecting the youngster’s baby.
Ben has recently started connecting with some of the locals, seemingly unaware of the troubling situation involving his son.
Earlier this week, the pub landlord shared some playful banter with cobbles favourite Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who pointed out that the pair were so alike because of their Irish heritage.
“We’re just on the same wavelength, me and you. It must be because we’ve got Irish in us — it’s in the blood,” Steve said. Fans will know that Ben comes from Northern Ireland, which is also the birthplace of Steve’s father, Jim (Charles Lawson).
Steve’s best friend, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), soon interrupted, clearly feeling jealous of how much Ben was bonding with Steve.
Ben and Steve’s friendship continued to develop during Friday’s (February 20) episode, now available to stream on ITVX. In the episode, the pair played darts together in the Rovers and later ended up drinking beer, enjoying a tipsy moment.
“It’s nice this, isn’t it? Hanging out with your new bestie,” Ben said, with Steve replying, “Ooh, don’t let Timmy hear you say that. He’ll have your guts for garters.”
Steve went on to explain that Tim was supposed to be attending a football match with him, but as he wasn’t feeling well, he offered the ticket to Ben instead — all while a frustrated Maggie looked on.
After watching the amusing scenes, many Coronation Street fans began speculating that Steve could be Ben’s secret half-brother, pointing to their shared Irish roots and similar personalities.
One fan wrote on a Facebook page: “Steve and Ben talking s**** in the Rovers, and then Steve saying they’re on the same wavelength and it’s Irish in their blood… I wonder if this is a hint that they’re half-brothers?”
Another added: “Actually, not as crazy as it seems, especially with the way Maggie keeps giving them daggers,” while a third commented: “Yes, I think this is why Maggie doesn’t want them to be friends… definitely sensing a half-brothers storyline coming.”
