Coronation Street’s David and Shona are expecting their first baby, and fans think they’ve already guessed the name.
Coronation Street fans believe they’ve figured out the name of David and Shona Platt’s baby — and it appears to be a tribute to a former Weatherfield legend.
David (Jack P. Shepherd) began dating Shona (Julia Goulding) in 2016, unaware that her son Clayton (Callum Harrison) was responsible for the death of his first wife, Kylie (Paula Lane).
Although David later discovered the truth, the couple managed to move past it and eventually tied the knot in 2019. However, their relationship has faced numerous challenges over the years, including David’s assault by Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) and Shona’s memory loss following the injuries she suffered during the dramatic siege on the cobbles.
Their relationship also endured Shona’s unexpected affair with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) last year. Despite the betrayal, David chose to forgive her, and the couple have since rekindled their romance.
Last month, Shona shared the joyful news that she’s expecting her first baby with David, much to his excitement. And in Wednesday’s episode (October 15), Shona was preparing to attend their first baby scan, hoping to discover the baby’s gender.
Unfortunately, David got trapped in a lift while shopping in town, so he couldn’t make it to the scan. He informed Shona, who then decided she didn’t want to go either without him.
With all the excitement surrounding the Platts’ baby, fans have already speculated about what David and Shona might name their child. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one user wrote: “Here’s hoping David and Shona’s baby brings some happiness to the street! What do you think they’ll name it?”
Another fan proposed naming the baby after David’s late wife, Kylie: “If it’s a girl, Kylie.” A third chimed in: “Ah yes, that would be lovely.” Someone else suggested Gail (Helen Worth), writing: “How adorable if they named the baby Gail!”
If the baby turns out to be a boy, another viewer recommended naming him after David’s father, Martin (Sean Wilson): “I’m going with Martin if it’s a boy.”
In September, Shona actress Julia Goulding revealed that her character’s new baby storyline “won’t be without drama,” promising “twists and turns” on the ITV soap.
When asked about upcoming exciting scenes and happy moments, Julia told the Mirror: “Yeah, it’s not without its drama.” Staying tight-lipped, she added: “There’s definitely more drama to come.”
Julia also hinted that the drama would be connected to the new baby, saying: “What can I reveal? I’m not sure, except that there will be plenty of twists and turns for them regarding the future of their family… and the child.”
