“Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews departed the ITV soap this week, almost 40 years after her first appearance.”

Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews has playfully called out her former co-star for their “terrible” behaviour on set.

Sally first rose to fame when she joined the ITV soap at just 16 in 1986 as Jenny Bradley. She played the role until 1991, returned briefly in 1993, and then came back full-time in 2015.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Sally would be leaving the show, nearly 40 years after her debut on the cobbles. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she wrote:
“I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much!
It’s time, though, to take on the roles I always dreamed of when I grew up. Thanks to Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter.”

This week on the soap, Sally’s exit scenes aired, with Jenny bidding farewell as she embarked on a new life in Spain after a dramatic few months in Weatherfield.

Speaking to Conversation Street, Sally reflected on her time on the cobbles and praised working alongside Jodie Prenger, who plays barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth.

However, not everything was smooth sailing—Sally jokingly revealed why she thinks Jodie can be “terrible” to work with.

Reflecting on Jenny’s time running the Rovers, Sally admitted that becoming the iconic pub’s landlady “wasn’t on my radar.”

Fans will remember that Jenny took over the Rovers in 2018 and remained there until earlier this year, when she was forced to step down. During her time at the pub, she employed several staff members, including Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Glenda.

Speaking about Glenda’s actress Jodie, Sally said: “We had a great time! She fitted in perfectly and is a lot of fun.” She then jokingly teased Jodie about her “terrible” habits: “She is terrible though, because she always brings in sweets!”

Sally also spoke about her “low-key” departure, saying: “I know people have been saying—I’ve already seen it today on Twitter—‘Oh, she should have had a bigger exit.’”

However, she insisted: “I loved Jenny’s exit,” explaining that she wanted it to be low-key. She added: “Yes, completely. And these days, they don’t really do big exit storylines anymore, unless the character is going to die.”
