Sally Ann Matthews has exited Coronation Street after years as Jenny Bradley – but she’s already secured a new TV role.

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has revealed her next television role after leaving the long-running ITV soap.
Sally first joined the show in 1986 as teenager Jenny Bradley, now Jenny Connor. She remained until 1991, returned briefly in 1993, and came back full-time in 2015.
Throughout her years on the cobbles, Jenny featured in numerous major storylines, from turbulent romances to a shocking baby abduction plot.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Sally had decided to step away from the soap, nearly four decades after her first appearance.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the actress reflected: “I was originally meant to stay for just five months, but I ended up staying an extra ten years because I loved it so much. It’s time now to take on the roles I always dreamed of playing as an adult. Thank you, Trafford Wharf Road, for the memories and endless laughter.”
Meanwhile, on-screen this week, viewers watched Sally’s farewell as Jenny bid an emotional goodbye to Weatherfield, leaving for a fresh start in Spain after a turbulent few months.

Sally has now revealed that she has already secured a television appearance on rival broadcaster BBC. Speaking on Conversation Street, she discussed her plans following her soap departure.
She confirmed: “I took part in Celebrity Mastermind!”. When asked about her specialist subject, Sally responded: “I can’t say, I’m not allowed to reveal it.”
Explaining her decision to join the quiz show, she added: “I don’t usually do programmes like that, but I agreed because it was for a specific charity.” She also revealed she has auditioned for a new drama, describing the experience as “really lovely.”

Although best known for her long-running role as Jenny in Coronation Street, Sally has also appeared in other television programmes, including The Catherine Tate Show and Emmerdale, where she portrayed Sandra Biggs between 2005 and 2006.
Reflecting on her departure from Corrie, Sally addressed fan reactions to her “understated” exit. “I’ve already seen people on Twitter saying, ‘Oh, she should have had a bigger exit,’” she noted. However, she made it clear she was happy with how Jenny’s storyline concluded: “I loved Jenny’s exit. I wanted it to be low-key. These days, unless a character is being killed off, they don’t tend to get big exit plots.”
