The unmissable Corriedale episode will air in January.

Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve figured out who Roy Cropper has been writing to in prison — and it’s someone very familiar.
It was revealed back in May that Emmerdale and Coronation Street will unite for a special one-off episode, bringing characters from both Weatherfield and the Dales together in an unprecedented crossover called Corriedale.
In recent episodes, café owner Roy (David Neilson) has raised eyebrows after being caught hiding letters and eagerly waiting for the post. His suspicious behaviour left his niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) worried when she found him anxiously awaiting a delivery.
Roy eventually admitted he was hoping to hear from his new pen pal, leaving Nina curious about who he had been writing to. He then explained that he had joined a scheme that pairs lonely prisoners with pen pals.

Explaining why he wanted a prison pen pal, Roy said: “Having been in prison myself, I understand how isolating it can be. A scheme like this could be a lifeline for people who have few friends or family.”
Even so, the identity of his pen pal stayed a secret, as Roy kept the letter tightly guarded.
In Monday’s episode of Coronation Street (December 1), Nina continued to worry about him. Although she was firmly against checking his mail, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) suggested they look — and ultimately found the letters anyway.

As they sifted through the post, they spotted a pink, handwritten envelope sent by someone named Alice. Just then, Roy walked into the café and caught them red-handed going through his mail.
Shona and Nina immediately apologised and explained that they were worried about him. Roy then clarified that he had also received a letter from a prisoner’s mother, Alice, who wanted to thank him for writing to her son.
Now, Emmerdale fans are convinced that Roy has been corresponding with Samson Dingle, whose mother was also named Alice.

In August 2024, Samson (Sam Hall) was sentenced to four years in prison after being arrested for attacking his former friend, Josh Cope.
His father Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and stepmum Lydia (Karen Blick) were heartbroken as they watched their son being arrested in the Woolpack and taken away to prison.
On Reddit, one user wrote: “Roy is also writing to the mother of someone who has a child in prison! I’ve just caught up on last night’s Corrie and the mum’s name seems to be Alice. As in Samson’s late mum?? What is going on!”

A second fan wrote: “I’m wondering if Roy Cropper’s prison pen pal is Samson, since he’s the only recent Emmerdale character I can think of who’s currently in jail.”
A third added: “On Coronation Street, it’s been revealed that Roy is writing to ‘some lad’ in prison, and that the boy’s mother contacted him to say thank you, which led to them becoming pen pals too. So I think — purely speculation — that he’s writing to Lydia (and Samson).”
On X, another viewer questioned: “So Roy is supposedly getting letters from a prisoner’s mum called Alice. Now that the messages are getting more ‘amorous’, I’m thinking that with the crossover coming up, could it be Samson who’s one of his pen pals — using his dead mum’s name to scam Roy? #corriedale #CoronationStreet #Emmerdale.”
