EastEnders’ audience is not impressed by the soap’s new romantic storyline.
EastEnders is set to explore a new romance in Albert Square, much to the disappointment of fans.
In Monday’s episode in Walford (17 November), a distraught Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) was thrown into chaos after learning that her vile step-son, Joel Marshall (Max Murray), plans to plead not guilty to assaulting her.
The shocking attack has left Vicki wary of men, but she is now unafraid to speak out against negative male behaviour. Just last week, she launched a verbal tirade at a man in Harry’s Barn before returning home and causing mayhem in the kitchen.
In the latest episode, Vicki and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) met with a liaison officer to hear about Joel’s intended plea at his hearing. Joel remains unremorseful, insisting the assault was in self-defence.
At first reluctant to leave the house, a distressed Vicki was eventually convinced to attend The Vic for the weekly quiz night, where she began to make small strides with Joel’s father, Ross (Alex Walkinshaw), according to OK!.
The two shared a drink, and there was a spark of chemistry, but Vicki then noticed suspicious behaviour from Chelsea’s date, Damon.
He was giving her drinks with triple measures, seemingly trying to get her drunk to take advantage of her. Vicki confronted him and was later shocked to overhear him speaking to his wife on the phone.
Chelsea advised Vicki to step back, pointing out that even though Vicki knew he was married, it didn’t excuse his actions as yet another man who thought he could exploit a woman without repercussions.
Later, Vicki and Damon crossed paths at the launderette, where he remained aggressive and approached her threateningly.
Acting in self-defence, Vicki pushed him away, causing him to fall and hit his head.
Despite Vicki’s defensive actions, many EastEnders viewers focused on the growing chemistry between Vicki and Zack. While Vicki is Sharon Watts’ (Letitia Dean) adoptive sister, Zack is Sharon’s biological half-brother.
In upcoming episodes, Zack and Vicki are set to form a closer bond as she opens up about the lasting impact of Joel’s assault.
The pair will also share a tender moment with a kiss, leaving some viewers uneasy due to their connection to Sharon, even though Vicki and Zack are not related by blood.
On X, one viewer wrote: “Vicki and Zack… it’s just one terrible storyline after another #EastEnders.”
Another added: “They are definitely setting up Zack and Vicki as a permanent couple… my stomach #EastEnders.”
