EastEnders’ Callum Highway is heartbroken after getting divorce papers from his imprisoned ex-husband Ben Mitchell, causing tension in his relationship with boyfriend Johnny Carter.
EastEnders has shared a new development leaving Ben Mitchell’s former partner Callum Highway heartbroken.
In Wednesday’s (February 18) episode, now available on BBC iPlayer, the shady Tim Walton (Tom Ratcliffe) set up a meeting with Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) and a reluctant Callum.
Johnny explained that he was struggling to keep his business afloat and needed Tim to increase his investment, so Callum (Tony Clay) agreed to attend to support his boyfriend.
However, when they met, police constable Callum was shocked when Tim requested an illegal favour, which he refused before storming off. Johnny later went to Callum’s apartment, but things quickly went wrong.
He told Callum: “Thanks for nothing. You know, you could have just pretended to go along with it, Cal. Just come back a few days later saying the guy didn’t have a criminal record,” reports OK!.
Callum shot back: “And you could have just put a stop to him. You knew what he was asking was completely out of line.”
Johnny responded: “What, do you think I set you up in some police honey trap? Really?” Callum fired back: “You seemed desperate enough to secure his investment, Johnny.”
“It’s taken me years—years—to build my own law firm. I don’t want to see it fail because of financial problems,” Johnny said, before continuing: “You’ve broken the rules for Ben. You’ve admitted it. You’ve crossed the line more than once.”
Callum replied: “Don’t do this, not today.”
Johnny insisted: “I’m allowed to, Callum. My feelings matter. I get that you have Lexi and need to stay connected to Ben. I even understand you going out of your way for Phil, but it makes me feel jealous, okay? I’m not proud of it, but it’s true. I just always end up feeling low on your list of priorities.”
Callum then told Johnny about the divorce papers he had received from Ben and expressed his worries about possibly losing contact with Lexi Mitchell (Isabella Brown) once his marriage to her father Ben officially ends, calling the situation “painful.”
Johnny quickly apologised, but tensions escalated, leading to Callum kicking his partner out of the flat, insisting he needed some time alone.
EastEnders viewers will remember that Johnny and Callum began a relationship last year, leaving Ben (Max Bowden) heartbroken when he learned his husband was seeing someone else while on day release from prison.
Ben was arrested and extradited to the United States for credit card fraud in 2024 but was returned to an HMP facility in Manchester last year.
EastEnders spoilers reveal that Callum and Johnny remain at odds over Tim’s request in Thursday’s (February 19) episode.
The tension eases slightly when Callum offers a thoughtful gesture to help Johnny secure new investors, though the solicitor still worries about the future of his business.
