“EastEnders viewers were heartbroken after the BBC soap shared a sad update about Slater family icon Lynne Slater, who hasn’t appeared in Walford for over two decades.”

EastEnders has delivered a heartbreaking update about beloved soap character Lynne Slater, leaving fans deeply disappointed.
Lynne (played by Elaine Lordan) first arrived in Walford in 2000 as part of the iconic Slater clan — alongside sisters Kat (Jessie Wallace), Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth), niece Zoe (Michelle Ryan), father Charlie (Derek Martin), and grandmother Big Mo (Laila Morse).
As the eldest of the Slater sisters, Lynne was central to many dramatic storylines. From her rocky marriage to Garry Hobbs (Ricky Groves) to a shocking drink-driving incident, her time in Albert Square was packed with turmoil and emotion.
However, after the heartbreaking loss of her unborn baby in 2004 — which ultimately ended her marriage to Garry — Lynne made her exit from Walford.

Although Lynne hasn’t appeared on-screen in the 21 years since her exit, she has been mentioned several times. According to OK!, in 2007 the Slaters learned that Lynne was happily engaged to someone new. When Charlie died, she was said to have attended his funeral off-screen in January 2016. More recently, her cousin Stacey (Lacey Turner) revealed that Lynne was looking after her children, Hope and Arthur, amid Zoe Slater’s ongoing drama.

However, in Thursday’s episode (November 6) of EastEnders, viewers received a sad update about Lynne. During a phone conversation with Big Mo, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) found out that Lynne needs surgery on her leg, meaning Mo will be staying to care for her for a while.
At the same time, following Zoe Slater’s return earlier this year, fans have been speculating that Lynne might be next to make a comeback. Adding to the rumours, actress Elaine was spotted reuniting with Lucy Benjamin, who posted a photo of the pair together on social media in July last year.

Lucy, who played Lisa Fowler on and off between 1998 and 2023, shared the photo during EastEnders’ 40th anniversary celebrations. The selfie gave fans a rare look at Elaine, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving the BBC soap.
Showing her fondness for Elaine, Lucy captioned the post: “Oh, I love this woman with all my heart! #ElaineLordan #EastEnders.” In the comments, one excited fan wrote: “Aaaaah, come back Lynne Slater! That would be amazing.”
Another fan agreed, saying: “We need all the Slater sisters back again!” while a third added: “Lisa and Lynne return for the 40th?” The enthusiastic comments kept coming, with another person posting: “Now please come back on TV.”
