Kevin Proctor was fined at Manchester Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to stalking his ex-girlfriend, actress Nicola Holt, following their ‘toxic’ relationship.

A film producer has been handed a £300 fine for stalking after instructing a private investigation firm to place a tracking device on his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend’s car.

Kevin Proctor, 47, has several notable producing credits, including the 2024 Beatles biopic Midas Man and the 2017 comedy Funny Cow, starring Maxine Peake and Stephen Graham.

However, in July 2024, he was arrested and charged with stalking after his former partner, Nicola Holt, discovered a tracker on her new partner’s vehicle. Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard today (November 27) that the device had been installed by private detectives acting on Proctor’s instructions.

Kevin Proctor initially denied the stalking charge involving serious alarm and distress, but today admitted to the lesser charge of stalking at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Prosecutor Olivia Davin told the court that Proctor had been in a relationship with actress Nicola Holt, known for her roles in Hollyoaks and Emmerdale, from July 2022 to August 2023. “At some point, the relationship between the two parties turned toxic,” she said.

On June 28, 2024, Ms Holt checked her own vehicle for a tracker but found none. However, she then checked her now-partner’s car and discovered a small black tracking device behind the number plate. The device contained a SIM card and emitted a blue flashing light. She contacted the police, who confiscated and examined the gadget.

Ms Holt did not attend court but provided a victim impact statement, describing the effect of the incident on her life: “This situation has made me completely paranoid and scared. I’ve put a Ring doorbell on my house, and every notification makes me panic. I even thought a man was following me in ASDA. I check my vehicle daily for a tracker. I’m now frightened that contacting the police will make things worse and that Kevin might turn up at my home and assault me.”

Defence barrister Aishling Byrnes told the court that there had been no violence or threat of violence from Proctor towards Ms Holt. She described him as a 47-year-old man of exemplary character who acted out of character and with extreme regret.

Ms Byrnes explained that Proctor had continued supporting Ms Holt financially even after their relationship ended. She said the complainant described the relationship as “somewhat toxic” but noted that Proctor had made regular payments out of concern for her well-being. When he learned she had started a new relationship, he questioned whether financial motives were involved and whether she still needed his support.

“The situation was handled poorly,” Ms Byrnes said. “He hired a private investigation firm, who suggested a tracker might satisfy his curiosity. He didn’t install it himself—he’s a film producer and unfamiliar with such matters—but it was done on his instructions.”

Ms Byrnes also referenced Proctor’s official autism diagnosis, stating that the stress of ending a relationship and concerns about a new one likely affected his decision-making. “His neurodiversity may explain why a previously law-abiding and successful man acted in such a bizarre way. It’s not a defence, but it provides context,” she added.

The court heard that Proctor’s life had been “turned upside down” since his arrest. He has suffered reputational damage in the film industry, no longer works in the profession, and now performs menial work in a freezer factory while living with his parents. His financial situation is unstable, with expenses far exceeding earnings, and he is in debt.

“He has started therapy to understand his actions and ensure they do not recur. He pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and is filled with remorse. His punishment began with his arrest and continues without relief,” Ms Byrnes said.

Proctor, from King’s Gardens, Bedworth, admitted stalking and was fined £300, ordered to pay £205 in costs and surcharges, and handed a 12-month restraining order preventing him from contacting Ms Holt or visiting any address where he believes she might be.
