Emmerdale’s Lydia Dingle is in for a major shock in an upcoming special episode ahead of Christmas, as 80s icon Jason Donovan makes a surprise visit to the village.

Emmerdale is set to feature a special visitor in the village as part of a big surprise for Lydia Dingle.
Actor and singer Jason Donovan has revealed he’ll be making a cameo appearance in the ITV soap later this year.
Although best known for his iconic role as Scott Robinson in the 80s soap Neighbours, Jason will be appearing as himself in Emmerdale.
Filming for his scenes has already been completed, and viewers will see Jason perform one of his classic hits at a packed Woolpack as a surprise for Lydia, played by Karen Blick.

During his appearance on Wednesday’s (November 5) episode of ITV’s Lorraine, Jason Donovan was asked about his upcoming Emmerdale role when Lorraine teased: “Now, don’t tell anyone, but are you joining Emmerdale?”
Jason replied: “Well, I was invited! The character Lydia is apparently a fan, so I’ll be appearing as myself—but keep that between us.”
Lorraine playfully responded: “Of course, it’s a secret! We definitely shouldn’t be showing any pictures either.”
Jason went on to explain: “I was asked to take part in something festive at the Woolpack. We filmed it a few months ago, and I have to say, the cast and production team were absolutely fantastic.”

Accidentally letting slip a behind-the-scenes detail, Jason added: “I went up to Leeds and had an amazing day. I got up and sang ‘Too Many Broken Hearts’ — probably shouldn’t have mentioned that either, but oh well, I just did.”
Talking about his surprise appearance, Jason said: “I’m so excited to have been invited to make a cameo in Emmerdale as myself. Filming was a lot of fun, and the cast and crew were incredibly welcoming. Singing on the Woolpack set was definitely an experience I won’t forget.”
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw commented: “We were thrilled that Jason agreed to take part in this episode. Not only is Lydia Dingle a huge fan, but there was a real buzz on set that day. I hope viewers enjoy his cameo as much as the Emmerdale team did.”
The special episodes are set to air in the lead-up to Christmas, with the cameo sure to surprise fans.
