“Worrying developments in Emmerdale have fans concerned for a much-loved character.”

Emmerdale fans are fearing the worst for Bear Wolf after spotting a series of worrying signs that suggest the beloved character could be battling dementia. In the latest episodes on ITV, Bear, played by Joshua Richards, has been trapped on a remote farm following months of forced labour — and his confused behaviour has left viewers convinced that something is seriously wrong.
One viewer wrote on Reddit: “I’m following the Bear saga, but I’m confused. The farm he’s being kept on is right next to Moira’s, close enough for Eve to spot him while she’s out playing. How can Bear not realise how close he is to the village? He could probably just walk there.”
Speculation quickly escalated, with another fan suggesting: “I think he’s meant to have some form of dementia, so he’s forgotten who or where he is. Or perhaps some kind of breakdown, as he was already having memory issues before he ‘ran away.’”

Another fan added: “Plus it looks like Ray is drugging him — the little pills he keeps giving him.”
Bear’s storyline has taken a dark turn in recent weeks, with the character being manipulated and exploited by Ray Walters while performing gruelling work on Celia Daniels’ farm.
Viewers have watched Bear help Mick and Simo plan an escape, but his memory lapses and confusion have sparked concerns about his mental state. As one user pointed out: “He was given the drugs after the arm injury he suffered. Presumably his injury is healed, as he dug a grave the other day, but now he’s addicted to the pills.”
Others believe the issue could be more complex. “CTE is more likely than dementia, as he passed the memory test with Liam and given his history in fighting and the way his symptoms are presenting,” one fan noted, referencing Bear’s past as a boxer.

Not all viewers were convinced, however. One commented: “It’s amazing that this is happening right under the residents’ noses.” Another added: “There are countless real-life cases of people being held as slave labour, both in rural areas and in towns and cities.”
Some fans noted that Bear’s memory issues aren’t entirely new. “He was already struggling with his memory before he left, so the simple explanation is that he’s rapidly declined,” one comment read.
Another viewer wrote: “I think he’s confused, disoriented, and doped up on pills, so he probably isn’t thinking clearly.”
Viewers will see Bear’s loyalty tested once again, as he faces a critical choice between obeying Ray or risking everything for a chance at freedom — but fans fear that by the time help arrives, his mind may already be slipping away.
