Emmerdale viewers were outraged during tonight’s hour-long episode over the way Liv Dingle’s death anniversary was portrayed.

As tonight’s Emmerdale episode aired, the late Liv Dingle (Isobel Steele) was remembered on the anniversary of her death. Her brother, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), approached Victoria Sugden (Isobel Hodgins) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) at the Woolpack, saying: “You know it’s Liv’s anniversary today? I was wondering if you’d like to go for a walk with me. Liv always enjoyed walks — and we had planned to do something anyway.”
“When were you thinking?” Victoria asked, and Aaron replied, “After this.” Victoria agreed, but Robert claimed he needed to speak to his parole officer in prison, even though viewers were aware he was actually planning to visit his imprisoned partner, Kevin Townsend (Chris Coghill).

Fans were left furious over the decision to have Robert skip Liv’s memorial walk, especially given how close he had been to the late character, who tragically died three years ago after being crushed by a caravan during a storm for Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary.
On Twitter, one viewer commented: “Totally with the fans disappointed by how Rob and Liv’s relationship was completely disregarded today — I loved their dynamic! I know #Emmerdale are going for comedic hijinks, but it’s such a shame he couldn’t honour her! #Robron.”
Another added: “We are so frustrated! Portraying Rob as the ‘love cheat’ and villain again, while not showing him genuinely mourning Liv, is straight-up character assassination.”
A third fan commented: “So disappointing — he didn’t seem that affected. They could have visited her grave when he returned. I would have liked a proper tribute to Liv and her relationship with both Aaron and Robert.”
Another added: “I loved their relationship! It was beautiful. It’s such a shame that during the whole hour-long episode he couldn’t have done something with Aaron to remember her, even if it was just a small moment.”
Despite the criticism, some fans focused on celebrating the show’s milestone. One wrote: “HAPPY 53rd BIRTHDAY @emmerdale, thank you for all the years.” Another said: “Happy birthday to my beloved farm soap!”
