EXCLUSIVE: EastEnders’ Bernie actress Clair Norris opens up about reuniting with former co-star Maisie Smith, describing their friendship as “complete opposites” that somehow worked flawlessly
EastEnders fans might have a reason to get excited, as former star Clair Norris has hinted at a potential reunion with ex-co-star Maisie Smith.
In an exclusive chat with the Daily Star in partnership with casino.org, Clair, known for her role as Bernie Taylor on the BBC soap, reflected on her time working alongside Maisie and the special connection their characters had on screen.
“I absolutely loved working with Maisie Smith. Our characters’ friendship on the show was so unique — total opposites, initially no one really got it, but it just clicked. That’s what made their dynamic so enjoyable,” Clair shared.
The actress, who joined the soap as a teenager, noted that portraying younger characters carried its own set of responsibilities.
“Being young actors portraying even younger characters, we were conscious of the example we set for the girls watching. It was fantastic working with her, and I really hope we get the chance to collaborate again in the future,” she added.
Clair’s remarks are sure to excite fans who have long hoped for a reunion between the two actresses, whose on-screen friendship was celebrated for its authenticity and charm.
Aside from Maisie, Clair also shared a few other co-stars she would love to work with again.
“I’d love to work with Matthew [Morrison] again. There are actually quite a few people. I didn’t get much opportunity to work with Zaarah [Abrahams], who’s a close friend, so it would have been wonderful to collaborate with her at some point,” she said.
Clair has also hinted that a return to EastEnders could be on the cards after her departure from Walford in July.
The actress, who portrayed fan-favourite Bernie for eight years, revealed she isn’t completely closing the door on a comeback, giving a teasing three-word reply when asked if fans might see her back in Albert Square.
When questioned about the possibility of Bernie returning, she said: “Maybe. I mean, never say never. They bring characters back all the time, but right now, I want to focus on other projects.”
