General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that viewers have strong opinions about Drew Cain—so strong that the negativity sometimes ends up directed at his portrayer, Cameron Mathison. The actor recently took to social media to open up about how this backlash is impacting his daughter.
Drew Cain Is Detestable — But Cameron Isn’t
On-screen, Congressman Drew Cain has crossed into full-on villain territory. But while Drew’s actions may stir frustration, Cameron Mathison himself is a genuinely kind person. Unfortunately, some fans blur the line between the character and the actor, sending hostility Cameron’s way as well.
This has now affected his daughter, Leila Mathison. Cameron went on Instagram to explain what was happening.
In his post, he shared that Leila had FaceTimed him after coming across a YouTube video compiling Drew’s darkest moments. He screen-recorded the call to show fans what she was dealing with. His caption read:
“Leila FaceTimed me after watching a YouTube compilation of some of my character Drew Cain’s darker scenes on General Hospital.”
He continued, “At first she was upset by how awful my character was acting — but then she started reading the comments, filled with hate and anger directed at me, and she had to call so we could talk it through.”
He ended with a reminder: “Just posting this as a gentle reminder that when we comment on social media, these actors have kids, families, and loved ones. Remember, it’s just a character — I’m simply doing my job 😎.”
Cameron Mathison Opens Up Further
Since the video didn’t capture the audio from the call, Cameron added a voiceover instead. He repeated that Leila had been shaken by both Drew’s actions and the cruel comments aimed at him online.
Mathison added, “Remember, everyone, it’s just a character. I love my job and am incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received over the years — truly. But hopefully this post will remind people that there are other things to keep in mind.”
