“I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! has had several stars walk out of the jungle during its 23 years on air, including a MasterChef judge.

“I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has returned to ITV, with 10 contestants already adapting to jungle life. Although it’s only been a few days and no one has quit this year’s series yet, many celebrities have previously chosen to withdraw from the show.
Whether due to health issues or personal circumstances, several stars have appeared on our screens for just a single episode before leaving.
So, we’ve put together a list of the I’m A Celebrity contestants over the years who’ve had to exit the hit ITV programme hosted by Ant and Dec.
From reality TV favourites to familiar presenters, plenty of celebrities have left the jungle earlier than expected.”

Celebrities who have walked out of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Grace Dent (2023)

In 2023, restaurant critic Grace Dent made a surprising early exit from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! due to medical reasons, ITV confirmed. A spokesperson for the show said: “She has been a fantastic campmate and will be greatly missed by both her fellow celebrities and viewers.”

Before attempting the Touchdown of Terror trial, the 52-year-old MasterChef star admitted she was struggling with jungle life, according to Wales Online. She confided in fellow campmate Josie Gibson: “I’ve had enough. I’ve completely had enough. I just want to go home.”

Dent wasn’t the only celebrity to leave the jungle that year.

Jamie Lynn Spears (2023)

Just a few days later, Britney Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, also quit the camp. The star had repeatedly threatened to leave, and a spokesperson confirmed she exited on medical grounds.

The spokesperson said at the time: “Jamie Lynn Spears has left I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on medical grounds. She has been a brilliant campmate, excelling in trials and bonding well with the other celebrities.”

Olivia Attwood (2022)

In 2022, Olivia Attwood made a quick departure from the jungle after only one day, also due to medical concerns.

A spokesperson explained: “As a precaution, Olivia needed to leave the camp for medical checks. Unfortunately, the medical team advised it wasn’t safe for her to return until further investigations are completed. She has been fantastic and will be sorely missed on the show.”

Richard Madeley (2021)

In 2021, Richard Madeley had to leave the camp following a hospital visit due to coronavirus regulations. That year, the show was filmed in a Welsh castle, and because he exited the camp and his Covid bubble, he was unable to return.

ITV said: “Our strict Covid protocols mean Richard has sadly had to leave the show as he is no longer in the bubble the celebrities form when entering the castle. He has been an outstanding campmate, and we thank him for being part of this series.”

Jack Maynard (2017)

In 2017, YouTuber Jack Maynard left the jungle just 48 hours into the series after old tweets from five years earlier resurfaced while he was participating in the show.

Jack’s team issued a statement: “In the past few days, Jack has been the subject of several media stories, and being in the Australian jungle with no contact with the outside world, he was unable to respond. Since it’s only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations against them and have the opportunity to defend themselves, it was agreed that it would be best for him to leave the show.”

Spencer Matthews (2015)

Spencer Matthews exited the jungle in 2015 just days into his stay, later calling it “an error of judgement.” The former Made In Chelsea star had to leave because he was taking steroid-based medication to prepare for a charity boxing match. After bringing the medication to Australia and informing the production team, he was advised it would be unsafe for him to continue in the camp.

Lady Colin Campbell (2015)

Lady Colin Campbell was forced to withdraw from the show in 2015 just days before the final due to health concerns. On her last day, she had a row with fellow contestants Tony Hadley and Duncan Bannatyne, continuing a pattern of clashes throughout her time in the jungle.

Gemma Collins (2014)

In 2014, The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins lasted only three days on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! before quitting. During her brief stint, she complained about the food, argued with other campmates, and even diagnosed herself with malaria.

Reflecting on her exit years later, she said: “I was robbed and physically attacked 24 hours before leaving for Australia. I didn’t want to let anyone down, so I still went in. However, I was in a terrible state of shock and couldn’t see it through. If you were robbed and attacked and then sent into the jungle, I’m sure you would have struggled too. I would never let anyone destroy my dreams again.”

Craig Charles (2014)

Red Dwarf and Coronation Street star Craig Charles left the jungle in 2014 after receiving the tragic news of his brother’s death.

An ITV spokesperson said: “Craig was informed of the sad news earlier today. He was devastated and chose to leave immediately, but he did take time to say goodbye to his fellow campmates. He was a valued part of the show, and while we are sad to see him go, we fully respect his decision.”

Brian Conley (2012)

Brian Conley exited the show in 2012 due to medical reasons. Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, he explained: “It was under extreme circumstances. I started feeling really unwell, and shortly after, I had to leave. I underwent an examination and was found to have malnutrition and exhaustion. They sedated me in hospital and gave me a tablet that could probably knock out a horse for two days. I woke up with a saline drip in my arm thinking, ‘What on earth has happened?’”

Nigel Havers (2012)

Nigel Havers also withdrew halfway through a Bushtucker Trial involving an electrocution challenge.

Freddie Starr (2011)

In 2011, Freddie Starr collapsed during a trial due to health complications. A meal containing fermented egg and a camel toe caused an allergic reaction that required immediate hospitalization. Medical professionals advised him to leave the competition to prevent further risk to his health.

Katie Price (2009)

Katie Price quit in 2009 after being nominated for every Bushtucker Trial. She later explained that the jungle environment reminded her of her ex-husband, Peter Andre, whom she met during her first appearance on the show.

Camilla Dallerup (2009)

Professional dancer Camilla Dallerup withdrew in 2009 due to the extreme camp conditions. According to The Sun, she said: “Before flying to Australia, my London doctor was concerned about my weight because I couldn’t afford to lose any more. I’m very lean, so I had no reserves to keep me going in the jungle. I wasn’t getting enough salt and sugar, and I began experiencing palpitations, memory loss, slurred speech, and cramping in my hands.”

George Hamilton (2009)

Actor George Hamilton, aged 70, chose to leave the jungle after realizing he wasn’t physically strong enough to take part in camp chores.

Kimberley Davies (2005)

Neighbours actress Kimberley Davies had to withdraw from the show due to sustaining an injury.

Elaine Lordan (2005)

In 2005, EastEnders actress Elaine Lordan left after collapsing twice on her very first day.

A spokesperson said: “We have carefully considered Elaine’s situation and have decided that she will not be returning to the jungle. ITV has a responsibility to all the celebrities participating, and given what happened to Elaine on two separate occasions in just a few days, as well as the challenges still to come, ITV has chosen to act with caution.”

Natalie Appleton (2004)

All Saints singer Natalie Appleton quit after being repeatedly voted to take part in Bushtucker Trials.

Brian Harvey (2004)

In 2004, East 17 singer Brian Harvey left the jungle following a dispute with Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter.

John Lydon (2004)

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon also expressed frustration over the lack of food and complained about not being voted out by the public. After starting a fire in the camp, he chose to quit.

He told Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly: “Let’s face it, I won this thing on the first day. The others are in it for the game. I’m starting to irritate them because I’m not here for that. They all suspect I’ll run off with it, which wasn’t my intention.”

Daniella Westbrook (2003)

In 2003, EastEnders actress Daniella Westbrook withdrew from the show, citing that she missed her children.

She later reflected: “It was an interesting experience. I won’t say I enjoyed it — I didn’t enjoy it at all. I couldn’t wait to leave.”
