In an exclusive interview with the Daily Star in partnership with Betway, Lisa spoke about meeting fans and said she genuinely loves being stopped by viewers, noting that most people are warm, kind and respectful. However, she admitted there’s a running joke that keeps anyone from trying to be rude.
“Everyone is lovely,” she shared when asked about fan attention. “No man or woman would dream of saying anything derogatory to me because, as Mandy Dingle, she’d break your face.”
Lisa explained that Mandy’s fierce, straight-talking image — complete with her legendary brick-filled handbag — has taken on a life of its own outside the soap. “They know Mandy’s got a brick in her bag,” she joked. “It’s become a long-running gag that Mandy Dingle carries a brick everywhere. People genuinely believe it’s true.”
Because of that joke, Lisa says negativity is almost non-existent. “No one would dare say anything insulting for fear Mandy’s brick might come out,” she added.
The actress, now one of Emmerdale’s most adored characters since returning full-time, says she’s grateful that Mandy’s tough reputation actually works in her favour.
Whether fans are complimenting her acting or just saying hi, Lisa says she’s always happy to meet them — as long as they remember Mandy’s brick could be close at hand.
