EastEnders star Shona McGarty grew emotional on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity as she made a tearful admission.
Emotions ran high on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! as football icon Alex Scott became the first star to be voted out of the ITV jungle. Her exit clearly hit several campmates hard.
After Alex’s departure, the remaining celebrities cheered her on as she crossed the bridge, but once they returned to camp, Shona McGarty grew visibly emotional, struggling to hold back tears as she explained how deeply the exit had affected her.
In the Bush Telegraph, Shona said: “Alex has been so strong throughout, and she’s kept me going—probably without even realising it.
“I’m gutted that she’s gone, to be honest,” she admitted. “But camp life has to carry on.”
Before the public vote was announced, Alex admitted she had “mixed emotions” about possibly becoming the first celebrity to leave.
She reflected: “If it’s me, then it’s meant to be. It’s my time, and I get to go and hug my loved ones.
“I don’t want it to be over, but if it is, then I’ve had the best time ever.”
Facing elimination alongside six other campmates, Alex appeared upbeat as she walked across the bridge to meet Ant and Dec.
“It doesn’t feel real — you just live in the moment with the campmates,” she said, adding: “It’s been such an incredible experience.
“Mentally, I struggled with missing home, but I’m so glad I got to do this series with such an amazing group of people.”
“It’s tough in there — constantly having to fetch water and firewood,” she admitted, before adding that she still had an amazing time in the jungle.
Alex also opened up about her bond with Shona during their time in camp, saying their “quiet personalities” naturally drew them together.
When asked who she wanted to win the show, she revealed: “Shona. I think Ginge and Aitch are great — it’s amazing to see them in the final — but seeing Shona crowned Queen of the Jungle would change her and give her the confidence to be brilliant in life.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
