Emmerdale fans are worried that beloved character Nicola King may be leaving soon.
Nicola (played by Nicola Wheeler) first appeared on the soap back in 2011. As the village’s nosy neighbour, she quickly became a fan favourite among the show’s dedicated audience.
Over the years, she has been involved in numerous major storylines. From enduring physical and psychological trauma to her cherished romance with Jimmy King (Nick Miles), Nicola’s time in the Dales has been packed with drama.
Her story continues to be intense, as this week on the show, Nicola’s adopted son, Carl King Jr, was beaten up at school by Lucas, the child of Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley).
Spoilers for next week reveal that Carl will be questioned by the police after an indecent image of Lucas’ sister, Clemmie Reed, circulates online. During the investigation, Carl admits to sharing the photo.
Nicola insists that Carl has understood the gravity of his actions, but the authorities are determined not to let the incident go unnoticed. They make it clear to the King family that they are treating the matter very seriously, leaving them stunned.
With more drama unfolding, fans are starting to speculate that a King family member might be set for an exit—and it’s not Carl Jr. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, viewers suggested that Nicola could end up in prison after “taking the blame” for Carl King Jr’s illegal actions.
Reacting to the storyline, one fan wrote: “I can see Nicola taking the blame for this [Carl sending the indecent image of Clemmie].” Another added: “Maybe, but wouldn’t that mean prison?”
A third commented: “I can see her lying and saying it was her.” One heartbroken fan pleaded: “Don’t say that, I really like Nicola!” Echoing the sentiment, another wrote: “I would be gutted.”
Speaking about the storyline, Olivia, who plays Dawn, told Inside Soap: “I was really shocked when I first read this plot because the children involved are so young… It’s a serious issue.”
She added: “I also think that regarding the photographs, Dawn expected to have more time to prepare her child for facing the world. That’s what has really caught her off guard… I’m really glad we’re exploring this story.”
