Pop-Specs reported that demand for large, Deirdre Barlow–style glasses is rising rapidly among younger people who wear spectacles.

Deirdre Barlow-style oversized glasses are back in fashion, according to a leading eyewear brand.
Pop-Specs revealed that interest in the large frames made famous by the Coronation Street legend — portrayed by the late Anne Kirkbride — is soaring among younger glasses wearers.
Daniel Barnes, the founder of the UK-based company, said that many young people are embracing the soap star’s trademark look by choosing chunky plastic frames in vibrant 1970s-inspired colours.
He explained: “Eyewear fashion is constantly changing, and 2025 has brought one of the biggest transformations we’ve seen in years.
“The thin, barely-there frames that defined the 2010s are out, and now it’s all about bold, oversized styles — a real nod to the 1990s and early 2000s.
“It’s not only about size anymore — colour has become a key part of expressing individuality, with larger plastic frames offering the perfect canvas for bold, eye-catching designs.”

“Think bright shades like orange, cyan, and green — colours Gen Z are using to pull their looks together,” said Mr Barnes.
His fashionable eyewear brand rose to prominence last year after securing nearly £100,000 in funding on Dragons’ Den, gaining backing from business titans Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman, and Sara Davies of the hit BBC show.
The entrepreneur explained that the move away from “thin wireframe” glasses toward what he calls “chunky silhouette” styles reflects a broader movement dubbed “playful maximalism.”
However, he cautioned style enthusiasts: “The main challenge with bold frames is that they can appear overwhelming if they dominate your entire look.
“Instead of matching every colour exactly, aim to echo the shade subtly elsewhere in your outfit.
“Tortoiseshell patterns pair beautifully with a tan belt or handbag, pink acetate stands out when matched with lipstick or sneaker accents, and a bold green frame looks great alongside a coordinated nail colour.”
